Galloway, Yorkshire Dales and Cornish Farm, Taunton.

From Galloway we have come to Gargrave near Skipton in the Yorkshire Dales as we have not been for about 30 years! Via Carlisle and the What3Words thread.

We have 4 nights with the Yorkshire DA of CCC who are having a meet here on the village football pitch. There was supposed to be a cheese & wine party tonight but it’s had to be cancelled as the marquee is at another meet along with the wine that should be here evidently! £10 per night with water. Grey water in the hedge and a farmer’s muck spreader in which to put the toilet waste!

The meet is being run by Martha & David and here is a pic of their van! Good name I think!

A few pics of Skipton but the market is nowhere near as good as 30 years ago but what can you expect!

Today we went to Grassington and then on a big circular tour around the dales with a late lunch at Massham and a pint of Theakston’s Old Peculier!

Scampi, chips and peas and half a lager shandy for Margaret and Haddock, chips & mushy peas for me. I thought the price was very reasonable. On the way back to the car we bagged an ice cream each for afters and both felt stuffed!

Cooked an old favourite last night but forgot to take a picture! Scampi Provençal - a bit retro from the 1960’s but it’s quick and easy to make.

One packet of frozen already cooked prawns (defrosted!)
1 tin chopped tomatoes
1 medium onion
A few cloves of garlic
White wine
Olive oil to soften the, chopped up small, onion in a frying pan
Tomato paste
A good few dashes of Tabasco chilli sauce
Salt & pepper to taste
1 heaped desertspoon of cornflour mixed with a tablespoon of cold water - to thicken
A good dash of brandy a good tablespoon or more
Some runny double cream 150-200mls
Boiled rice to go with it

Fry the onion gently to soften then add the finely chopped garlic, cook a bit more then add the tomatoes and a small glass of white wine. Get it bubbling to evaporate some liquid. We use Uncle Ben’s boil in the bag rice to put this on to cook in boiling hot water for 13 minutes whilst you finish the prawn dish
Add the prawns to the frying pan and heat them through. Add salt, pepper and Tabasco to taste.
Now add the brandy and mix through. Once hot again it now needs thickening so mix the cornflour and water in a cup then pour into the frying pan whilst stirring it all together and it will thicken. Cook for another few minutes to cook out the cornflour then add the cream and stir and wait whilst it reheats. It will now be the colour of a Marie Rose sauce (prawn cocktail). Serve up the rice and then spoon over the prawn Provençal’s. Add some parsley if you have some or are feeling posh! Enjoy

Can serve up to four, certainly 3 and its very generous for 2!

Silvercraigs site is nice too.
Good to know, have just booked it for part of a September trip. Chose one of the front row hardstandings, hoping for a nice view over Kircudbright.

Left Gargrave this morning and had a reasonable journey south apart from the inevitable hassle north of and around Brum on the M6. Stamford services southbound were a useful break before the Brum hassle!

Now at eddievanbitz site at Taunton “Cornish Farm” with an appointment with Ash in the morning to discuss Lithium batteries, B2B & possibly a charger change and another solar panel.

We will get home tomorrow before everyone gets home from work and blocks the street with parked cars and vans!

Next trip to Bisley for the Centenary Smallbore Target Rifle shooting meeting in August!

Just got lucky and heard the fridge beeping to say its lost its gas supply so 1 11Kgs cylinder has lasted us for this trip and the previous week to Cirencester & Devizes on fridge all the time, gas hob & oven and boiler when not on site with EHU.

Quite probably but with a 9m tag towing a car I was loath to go into the villages but just wanted to post a warning to others. With the amount of truckers using the A75 I would have thought there was potential for at least one stop or a mobile vending van!

Disappointed to see lorries >7.5t limited to 40mph which caused plenty of tail backs.

One one section of roadworks for resurfacing they were not content with just a set of traffic lights but imposed a convoy system following a van at 5mph!
I'd hardly say Newton Stewart or Castle Douglas were villages. Plenty artics and buses go through them.
