Ok so most of us have with an older van have had leaking window seals So we decide to put gaffer tape around the affected part as a temporary measure and then replace with new seal or sealant as soon as we can Question 1 which way is the preferred way of doing this IE new seal or mastic Question 2 Ideas of how to remove the old glue that is left on on the Body of the Motorhome.after taking Gaffer Tape off Look forward to your replys

The yellow big wipes will remove glue residue. Did a great job of removing the residue from the headlight lens left when I removed the deflectors after about 5yrs.
I had tried everything else first to no avail.

Beware of using Methelated Spirit. Some years ago I read an article in Caravan magazine that someone used menthelated spirit to clean his plastic windows. He was apparently well chuffed with the result. Nice shiny windows until that is the windows became full of tiny cracks!

Depends how big a leak. If the seal is perished or the frame corroded then replacing is the solution. DIY job for the competent.
Otherwise I'd suggest Capt. Tolley's Creeping Crack penetrating sealant. Simple to use and it really does find and seal a leak.

I've used this stuff for the exact purpose you mention. Spray on the residue, leave for 5 mins and wipe off. Works great!

And throw away that cheap duct/duck/gorilla tape and get yourself some proper Gaffer tape. That will not reave a residue unless left in place for ages and provided you remove it by pulling back slowly at in excess of 90 degrees.
OR the GafferTape from one of the Eurythmics tours is old like mine! 😄

And if the substrate is plastic, acetone will remove that too!

We had a leaking window last summer during some heavy rain and then very hot weather. I had done a temporary repair with something much stickier than gaffer tape (Tear-Aid). When I came to do the repair some time later the only thing that removed the baked-on glue residue was nail varnish remover that contained 98% acetone (Superdrug).
Acetone can destroy polycarbonate!
