don't own one yet
Good morning everyone, my name is Rich and myself and the wife have come to a point in our lives where we want to take some time away and do some travelling. Both in our mid to late 40's and we usually do the whole fly to a beach holidays but we have decided we want to live in a motorhome for a year or two so we are planning. We have never driven a motorhome but i have driven a 7.5 ton box van before but we are hiring a motorhome ( Roller team Zafiro 665) for a week at the end of September and going to France for the week to go climbing. Our ultimate aim is to buy a new motorhome and do 3 months uk 3 months EU for as long as we can, as much wild camping as possible and rent our house out. Initial plan is a sub 7 metre van with a motorbike on the back for venturing into town and one with a large rear garage as I need space for my bouldering mats and outdoor kit. The wife works from home so can keep her job while we travel and we plan her to try abd work the first 6 months and sew if it's sustainable.
Sure I will be asking many questions over the coming years as we are planning on going sometime the end of 2024 or early 2025 at the latest.

Thanks in advance

I hope you have over 3500kg on your licence, if not I think you will need it.

If your going to tow a trailer make sure you get the required licience or you may end up paying twice

The idea is for one of the Armitage motorbike carriers with something like a sub 150kg Suzuki Burgman (200cc) on it so will be axle weight not a trailer. Does seem likely that I will sneak over the 3500kg limit with fluids and cargo

There are some clever bike people on here who will know put a title on a question with motorbike it it and the flood gates will.open .
You will however need to pay subs to have more than 5 free posts you also then get access to the classified ads

Hope you find what your looking for

Hello welcome to Motorhome Fun take advantage of the knowledge on here formulate your thread titles so people with the knowledge to answer see the question.
I would seriously think of a two or three year vehicle with a good service history and all the extras, buying new these days is no guarantee of trouble free in fact it often seems to be the opposite , view as many layouts as possible, sit in them without the sales person see what it would feel like on a wet day or when you wife is working you will need a comfortable working space.
Good luck with the adventure ahead of you.

Welcome
We did full time for 5 yrs.
You will need to sort out some sort of base either for winter not easy, or for summer especially with EU 90 day etc.
We were lucky and had facilities at at a local sailing club.
Also bear in mind UK address for dvla and medicals.
A great opportunity but it isn't quite so simple without pre planning.
