Funster Deal on Battery to Battery Charger CANCELLED

The guy at a&ncaravan and motorhome services who are Hymer electroblock specialists says it increases wear on the alternator, which is one of the reasons he doesn't recommend them.

Who?????????

Oh the generator bloke:whistle:

We've got one, coupled to 2 x Trojan traction batteries.

It is an excellent piece of kit. (y) Apart from when on ours or a friend's driveway, I can't remember the last time we were on EHU. We leave home with fully charged batteries, and return home with fully charged batteries, (depending on time of year of course, and distance travelled), and if it wasn't for cooling down the fridge, we wouldn't be on EHU before leaving home either. The 2 x 85 watt solar panels help too. ;)

Cheers,

Jock.

My alternator already charges my leisure battery while driving and must do it quite well as I've not had it hooked up to electric since March :)

But been wildcamping every second weekend since and a fortnight in france again with no hookup

So i guess if it ain't broke why fix it :)

Having had a good read of the product download, it looks really easy to fit, just so long as you have the battery type selector switch set correctly (LED, sealed, jell battery etc), which is clearly shown on the top of the charger :)

So, we have a wet Acid battery for the engine, fitted by Peugeot, but 2 Gel batteries for the habitation, fitted by Autocruise as standard.

From the above it would appear that it would not work with our system. Anyone know if I'm right?

Hi Keith, the Sterling B2B has the ability to select battery type so, it's not a problem

Eddie

If you do fit a b2b yourself or have one fitted by another, please make sure the sensor wire to the alternator is fitted. I know from my own experience just how imported it can be. It monitors the tempurture of the altenator and will reduce the output if excesive.

Yes I see that Eddie. So does the B2B only connect to the habitation side?

At the moment all batteries are charged by either EHU or alternator while travelling this ensures we have charged batteries after a days drive.

This leads me to think they are all connected in some way so a B2B wont know there are 2 types of battery in the circuit, so how does it handle that?

Hi Keith,

No, the three battery connections are engine battery to B2B, Leisure Battery(s) to the B2B and Negative to the B2B

One last thing, we see loads of B2B installations where the correct gauge cable has been used as above, but then the original "battery Negative" to chassis has been left. It is important that the negative is uprated to the same gauge as has been used on the positive to B2B

Auch Jim naw I wanted wan of them fings......

Sorry, that deal has evaporated now. I'd convinced the guy we'd have 6, but ended up with just 1 firm order. Speak to @eddievanbitz I'm sure he stocks them and the Funster discount he gives should save you a few quid.

Sorry the deal didn't work out Jim.

There were quite a few confusing posts on here which may have put people off this excellent piece of kit.

Is it worth me bringing the clamp tester to Lincoln so you can demonstrate the system and maybe try again for some orders there?

Only if you fit it for us Norfolk residents who are not safe with a set of spanners, ha ha.

Might take you up thanks. Will not spend any more on the van we have at the moment as we are looking at something with fixed bed . It would pay dividends when we are at the shows. Cheers

Thanks Jim, Sterling Effort. If I didn't live in a land of Free power, I would have been your second customer.

Can't belive it feel through...best bit of kit I've every bought other than the matching inverter and batteries to make me van like being plugged in every day...

And Chris an idiot can fit it....i did :-)
