Hi guys, you lovely merry men/women out there !

When I go onto the many forums I belong to, and people say that OFF GRID is the way to go, as the sites have become so expensive, (which is TRUE! even CL sites, with no facilities are expensive !).

Well my question is ? I am up for a 2-week holiday driving from Suffolk to the Penines and the Lake District, but this time I am going to go via Britstops! But the problem is there is no water or electricity in their carparks for most, but some yes, but majority No!

Now as a lady, I like to shower everyday, so where do I get the water from?, to fill my tank up. Was told, NEVER drive with a full tank of water, as your consumption on deisal will skyrocket ! So not too sure, what the heck I do now! Trying to save money on the every increasing sites , or putting water into my tank, which at present, not too sure, where I would get that from anyway ? As most carparks don't have that facilities,

HELP please Advise please, if you have the time, during this xmas rush? hahah

im

im not sure how big the Truma boiler is, but yes, after a very quick 4 minute shower, it runs cold.
Then I have to wait for the boiler to fill up again, and heat up, which doesn't take long but by then I'm out and dried. so tend to shower in the morning, then wash my hair in the evening!

Ah, so you haven’t learned the shower shuffle yet….🤔

so are you saying that fuel stations allow you to fill up with water ? I've never done this before, or is there a cost involved for this service ? as it takes about 20 minutes to fill up my tank
Before you fill up, go and ask if you can fill up with water if you buy fuel, if the say no try the next garage, also make sure the tap is accessible.

As you only have an 80 Lt tank how can it take that long to fill?.
Depending on water pressure it only takes 5 to 10 min to fill my 150 Lt tank.

We always travel with full tank of water, and when we had an American RV, that was 280 litres, it didn't make a noticeable difference to fuel consumption. As for the 'other forum' saying that your fuel consumption will reduce by one third is utter crap! You will not. Fill up and enjoy! Garages always have water, and will often let you fill up.

Thank you Craig for your kind advise and making me less worried and concerned

hahah, shower off, soap, shower on, remove soap, shower on, and do it all again for the hair, is that the shower Shuffle? coz if it is, I'm just getting used to it. But why aren't the boilers bigger for hot water anyway ?

80 liters, enough for 2 showers, usually,
40l per shower? Wow… You can shower using far less than that.
yes I think your right there David, I plan to do a site every 3 or 4th day, to cut costs, but 30 per night for 14 night adventure is far too expensive for me! So to fill and dump etc, then I will have to do a couple of sites
You can find sites well under £30pn. I had a few nights on a full facilities site earlier this month for £18.40pn, and another site was £15.40.

In terms of water weight, I travel with my tank full and it makes almost no difference to my fuel consumption. Also, it is perfectly possible to be clean and fragrant without showering every day when you’re on the road. 🙂

Well, Iike a shower, and i think the boiler is NOT that big? so it is only as hot (4mins), before the tank goes cold, so it is NOT HALF the tank, just the boiler runs dry of hot water

Other things can affect fuel usage, filling the fridge and cupboards before you set off against shopping when you stop, driving/ braking style. There are some sites that allow fill-up and waste emptying for a small charge. If you worry about filling the water tank, I suppose the same thing applies to fuel - the more fuel you put in the heavier the vehicle but you don't want to half fill and keep looking to stop and half fill more often.

I think where i am going the lake district, is where the sites are higher. Showers wake me up, than a Top and Tail hahaha Each to their own , plus make up and hair dryer, something men don't have to bother about either ! hahah

We can both get a hot shower from our 10 Lt boiler and with our 150 Lt tank a total of 8 showers plus all the water for washing up and drinking for 4 days.

We can also share a tank of hot water & get away with it BUT like sweet Caroline it’s nice to have GOOD shower ( a tank each ) , if we turn the temperature up to max we get even more hot water
We have a 215 L tank , always drive full , little to no difference in mpg

We have an Eco camel shower head, mixes water and air in the handle. You definitely get more shower time for the same volume of water.
Just replaces your existing shower head.

Or one of these.

www I have just bought the trigger head, I was recommended, for 12.50. if this helps, if not then I will invest in the touchy 60£ one, you have kindly recommended honey

hhhh, find it strange that others can get 10 showers out of theirs, and I can only get on average 4
Think they talking about water tank capacity which is differant to your boiler capacity which is 10ltrs.. so with a larger water tank you can fill your boiler numerous times and get more showers..to a max of 10ltr per shower before water gets colder... obviously you have to mix cold water to that boiler water to shower temperature so the cooler you have water the longer shower you can have.
