Hi guys, you lovely merry men/women out there !

When I go onto the many forums I belong to, and people say that OFF GRID is the way to go, as the sites have become so expensive, (which is TRUE! even CL sites, with no facilities are expensive !).

Well my question is ? I am up for a 2-week holiday driving from Suffolk to the Penines and the Lake District, but this time I am going to go via Britstops! But the problem is there is no water or electricity in their carparks for most, but some yes, but majority No!

Now as a lady, I like to shower everyday, so where do I get the water from?, to fill my tank up. Was told, NEVER drive with a full tank of water, as your consumption on deisal will skyrocket ! So not too sure, what the heck I do now! Trying to save money on the every increasing sites , or putting water into my tank, which at present, not too sure, where I would get that from anyway ? As most carparks don't have that facilities,

HELP please Advise please, if you have the time, during this xmas rush? hahah

Always travel full of water.
7 Day supply.
Always fill up when you find it, for a further 7 day travel.
However on the run home we do not fill just count your days.

If you take a full tank of water from here and drive to Africa, yes may impact on fuel consumption against weight. But, around UK for few 100 miles, I would fill up and carry some spare 20L for good measure, if water is difficult to get by.

I would fill the tank to start then top up at every opportunity, places like graveyards normally have taps but may be turned off in winter. Some sites will let you fill and empty for a cost so might be worth checking that.
You could try using less water too when shower to make it last.

Try Fuel Stations (y)
so are you saying that fuel stations allow you to fill up with water ? I've never done this before, or is there a cost involved for this service ? as it takes about 20 minutes to fill up my tank

Hi the Jays,I plan 7 days up and 7 days back , but stoppingon different routes, so will still need tank full of water. But it seems to be the consensus, that driving with a Full, Tank wont make a lot of difference to my fuel consumption anyway, which is NOT what I had been previous told, on purchase of the van in August of this year / Thank you so much for the trouble guys in replying

my tank, only does 2 showers, and a few dishes, so it won't take a 7 day supply. So for me as a woman, it is the showers, that I need, more than a trickle of water for the dishes, during the 2 week travel time. So like people say, I have to just my travelling and also the Off Grid experience, on bathing in pub carparks, But just downloaded the park4night app, but slightly wary of this on my own mmmm Maybe being tooooo cautious,

I always travel with a full fresh water tank and never noticed an effect on mpg.
But I believe some motorhomes converters suggest driving with only 20 or so litres in the tank ?
Maybe they have reasons for this ? I'd check the manual, especially if the dealer told you to drive empty

Nobody will know your showering, just close the blinds and lock the door and away you go (y)

A full tank of water is the same as carrying another passenger, albeit a smallish one at 70 to 80kg
It will make next to no difference on fuel consumption.
I used to tow a small car, around 1200kg, and fuel was around 25mpg....without the car it was around 26mpg.

Thank you, so as i am travelling alone, then as you said the consumption wont be a lot of difference anyway! Why did other forums, say my 37 mpg, would then go down to 25 mpg, which is NOT good !

Don’t dismiss club sites, as a solo traveller you might be surprised how fairly good value it is

And for all the water you take on you need to dump it and your toilet every third day or so 👍

A mix of sites and not works well for us

it is the dreaded knock on the door from Mr plod, that worries me, or worse unexpected visitors, many as a man, that is NOT a worry, but in this day and age, it is all us women travellers anxieties sadly, mmmm

yes I think your right there David, I plan to do a site every 3 or 4th day, to cut costs, but 30 per night for 14 night adventure is far too expensive for me! So to fill and dump etc, then I will have to do a couple of sites

im
Blimey how big is your boiler..? A Truma capacity is 10ltrs and I can shower well within that, does your showers go cold using that amount of water…🤔
im not sure how big the Truma boiler is, but yes, after a very quick 4 minute shower, it runs cold.
Then I have to wait for the boiler to fill up again, and heat up, which doesn't take long but by then I'm out and dried. so tend to shower in the morning, then wash my hair in the evening!
