Fuel price discrepancy

Whilst we have some differences in the price of petrol locally, what concerns me is the "loading" of diesel. I came back from France/Belgium 5 days ago and diesel there is just 4-6c a litre more than petrol. The UK has some questions to answer!
Are they not subsidised? The market has the answers to the question, not the UK

Diesel in France was always cheaper than petrol, now it is dearer the the difference seems to be about the same.
But the market appears to be being held at a false high

Opec just met with a view to increasing prices now that Russia is being embargoed!

There is environmental tax loading... Agreed EU wide, but no their prices are not subsidised and let's not forget that diesel is much more easily refined than petrol is. The higher the price the more tax HMG takes. HMG could set price boundaries but won't, especially when chumps like us just pay the difference!

I see no explanation there for the big difference in prices of diesel vs gasoline. I have already explained it several times on other threads

Yes may be 4ppl more but prior to the war in Ukraine diesel in France diesel was in the region of 15c cheaper than petrol. So it’s moved up by around 18/ 20c in relation to petrol.

……and all due to supply relative to demand

Subsidising shopping! I don't think any of the big supermarkets need to subsidise their shopping parts of their business, some of the discount supermarkets seem selling some branded goods for less than the big supermarkets and still making some profit on them, I hope they don't all think we have the same thoughts or they'll be hiking their prices even higher.. Just sayin....
I meant from the prices they charge for other stuff they usually subsidise fuel to get people in . Morrisons used to do it quite a lot and Sainsbury's.
