I fitted CBE kit a few years ago and did a little write up, still going strong I believe.

I got a second hand fan from computer shop for a fiver five years ago, it's still working. No thermostat,,I plug it in when it's hot and unplug it when it cools down .Works well in Spain in summer.BUSBY.

These thermostats are superb, seem to be an industry standard item 12v for the camper or 240v for the hot water cylinder at home. Settings retained when not powered, simple to adjust and much more accurate than the simple bi-metal type.

I have a very similar setup helping the air circulation behind my Waeco compressor fridge which is in a rather restricted cabinet.

Also a 240v one that controls the boiler for our hot water cylinder.

These controllers have a 3w power consumption. Doesn't sound much but that's 0.25 amps.. All day, every day 😔

You're better off using a mechanical thermostat. Or making your own with solid state switching like I did 😇😎

TITAN- 12V DC IP55 Waterproof Double Rack Mount Ventilation Cooling Fan with Timer and Speed Controller- TTC-SC22 (120mm) Amazon product ASIN B07F2K5GCW

Contains everything you need including mounting hardware.....👍🏼
Yes I got this one. Works well, easy to fit and meant I didn’t need to mess around to save £20. I think the Dometic only has one fan, could be wrong though, too lazy to check 😂

On my boat I fitted a cooling fan I'd recovered from a dead PC's power supply. The 12V fridge has a spare spade terminal, adjacent to the power connection, that becomes live when the fridge cuts in. The fan is connected to that, so it runs when the fridge compressor does. I put in an isolator switch, as I turn it off in winter/cool weather.
On the boat, it's arranged to draw air from the bilges under the floor, as it stays cooler down there, below water level.

Commercial fridge condenser fans come on with the compressor so that's probably what that spade connection is for 👌👍

it’s not on all day every day ,it has a switch to switch it off when not needed , it’s only on when it is very hot ( when the sun shines ) & that’s when my solars are producing way more amps than I need , the fact it’s a thermostat it’s only switching on the fans when needed , so no problem at all 😁

Oh I thought the idea of a thermostat was that you didn't have to do any switching yourself 😉
Mine is on 24hrs a day and uses 0.003 amps. It comes on at night sometimes in Benidorm.

No it's not, it's just a computer cooling fan & an Elmwood thermal switch you can buy the components for less than a tenner.
For 25 quid you can fit 2 decent fans and a proper temperature controller

Yep so did I, I think on your recommendation Martin. You showed me your installation when we met in Shrewsbury a few years ago I think.

I can thoroughly recommend the CBE unit. It has two speeds and can work automatically or manually. I just put it on auto when we are using the motorhome and the weather is warm. Works a treat and very easy to fit without any need to faff around with electronics. And, most importantly, no more warm beer. (y) ::bigsmile:

I get the impression that some people would drive an extra 25 miles out of their way to save 1p a litre at a cheaper service station 🤷 😂😂😂

You just need one fan, not on the vent grill but just above the condenser, at the hottest end. With the amount of room behind the fridges, fans on the vent just circulate air through the rear of the back of the fridge, with just a small proportion actually passing over the condenser, which is what overheats in hot climes. You need to pull (or push from below it) air circulation across the condenser, and I find one 140mm fan is plenty. I use an artic fan with it's own variable speed probe, and an illuminated switch to operate it. When on it just runs at low speed unless the heat rises above a set temp, then speeds up in stages, depending on the temp recorded.

That's alright as long as you don't over do it. Remember the condenser is designed to be static, and the refrigeration system is driven by heat. My fans gently remove the heat and when the cool end gets to about 40°c they switch off. 😊
