Fridge checked at Santander.

Have been going to France for over 20 years and finding fresh milk ( lait frais) easy enough to find in the refrigerated area.
hot chocolate is another thing. Some is like a melted chocolate bar, which I find delicious but my wife can’t drink it and prefers the anemic British version! Often I end up with 2 cups of the “ right stuff”!

Why don’t you get off your high horse and stop accusing me of lecturing people when just giving an opinion. We also go to Spain and Portugal for just short of three months, but unlike you don’t find it necessary to look for British food or even break the law by taking it with us and hiding it. I suppose according to you that makes me “holier than thou”.

I have no idea where you go and eat but we find very good Spanish and Portuguese food when eating out without eating Paella and salt cod. Instead of looking to make an issue out of what I said, convince me I am wrong with a valid argument, instead of making obnoxious remarks. After all this is a forum for people to voice their opinions or so I thought. SA4

We changed over to UHT years ago when we were in France as it was easier to find and store, we were house sitting and first year didn’t take the car with us so had to walk everywhere, the shop was quite a walk away!
We were against it for years as MiL used it and she always put too much into the tea and it tasted foul, but if your conservative with it and persevere it’s fine, and so much easier!

Fresh is less common. Most of Europe is UHT. It is in most major supermarkets but takes a bit of looking for sometimes.
Never had a problem this last ten years ...Its just weird that Lidl France don't sell fresh milk but Lidl Spain do, BUSBY.

This thread made me think about what food stuffs we take on our European holidays bearing in mind the post Brexit regulations. This is all we take. What do other Funsters take?

As we fulltime we take everything we would normally have back home...plus extra packs of proper back bacon and Lincolnshire sausage..😉

True, but try and find decent milk in France!
We stayed on a France Passion and ended up in the farmhouse kitchen drinking rhubarb wine they made and bottled it in what looked like a Grolsch bottle. 😁
We purchased some and mentioned all we need now is some milk, 9 o'clock next day she came to our door with a 1.5 litre bottle with milk straight from the cow and still warm. 😁😎 Bob.

UHT is the work of the devil! Vile stuff.

I've always managed to get fresh milk OK in France in recent years, but it does tend to be in smaller bottles and from larger supermarkets.

As far as taking milk with you, it's a convenience thing, not having to look immediately for a supermarket as soon as get off the ferry / train in order to have a brew. Far more important is bacon and sausages, neither of which you can buy the same as the UK!
Ah, but not nearly as vile as sterilised milk!
