Fresh Smell for Toilet?

so is mine classed as a sog system ,,?

That is the genuine Thetford one.
We also have one of those, noisier and runs on for ages unless you manually press the button to stop it after use, works OK though
rob1234 It may have the extraction fan but you may want to have a proper look as Autotrail didn't install the vent pipe to the outside on some vans, mine doesn't and have known others the same. If you take the filter out and then the small fan there should be a pipe going out through the floor, if not it's just venting within the toilet compartment.

I've always found Fenwicks Top and Tail good. You can use it in flush and bottom tank. Safe for septic tanks etc. Smells ok to me.

oh ok is there anything i should do,, like drill a hole under it with a pipe or something ,,?

rob1234 That is an option as long as there is nothing in the way. I didn't have the bottle to try as you need to drill through the double floor hoping there is nothing in the way and also when you come out through the under floor your not going to hit anything vital. Was there a reason Auto-Trail didn't install the vent pipe? Who knows. Let us know how you get on.

thanks you have scared me now,,think i might leave it unless some one else comes on and says its easy ,,
I had exactly the same problem on my Pilote, it's easiest to remove the toilet to do.
Before you actually remove the toilet take out the cassette and remove the cover and fan and draw on floor the exact position, working from outside van measure from outside wall to centre of your drawn position, should be roughly central to access door then take a line vertically down side of van and then measure on the under floor to your desired position of hole, that will tell you where you will come out underneath.
as to what is likely on the between floors, I carefully used a 32mm hole saw with the centre drill retracted so it was just proud enough to start the hole saw and then removed the drill, that way you can carefully remove a plug of floor without damage to anything that may be in the area, mine hade nothing any where near it, then simply drill from inside the lower floor which from the earlier measuring you know nothing is in the way of, all of this is easier if you remove the toilet out of way.
I used a piece of 32mm waste pipe and fashioned a mesh grid at the outlet to stop creepy crawlies getting in all held firmly in place with some Sikaflex I had left over from previous job.

Thanks for this very helpful I check it out in a few days...

What is a nice smelling chemical additive that I could use for the cassette toilet? I read on here awhile ago about a nice smelling additive but cannot find it now. Anyone recommend one?

TA Steve
We have the Thetford fan and use thetford or domestic green tabs, but I also find emptying the cassette within 24 hours even if 1/2 full helps manages any smells as well also if you are on the move everything gets stirred up so consider when you empty.

This stuff is amazing , we have a small black tank , but use it in both black and grey tanks.

About £14 a bottle but money very spent IMO 👍 much cheaper than fitting a SOG
Does that say 40 shot?

*the price has gone up a bit since this screenshot was taken

We have a SOG fitted it years ago, no chemicals used nor needed.
Had to replace the fan a while back, original expensive so Manic found and fitted a computing one.
(It now adds and subtracts well!) :giggle:

I use Formil Bio Washing Liquid in the loo.

formilGreen_600x.jpg

From Lidl. I don't use anything else and it's Biological ingredients seem to dissolve the solids in the loo.

Two pluses;

It smells nice.
If you needed to hand wash, or machine wash some clothes, you're all set.

Not sure how it works out cost wish but convenience is great.

Use the same stuff, excellent. Also use a single shot in the grey tank when touring, no smell when subsequently emptying👍. It seems to kill the smell not cover up with floral scents 💐

We now use

Blue Diamond BD020A Nature Calls Toilet Fluid-Grey, 2 litres

which smells good and is completely bio friendly. Get it from Amazon, £12.49 and lasts ages

Don't ask me why but I had a bottle of urine collected for another purpose (cue a deluge of questions wanting to know why )

I decanted into two identical bottles and tried a dash of Top & Tail liquid in one and Solbio in the other................ wait one week.....

The Top & Tail bottle smells far nicer than the Solbio one to my nose............. I will NOT be repeating the experiment with number twos!

I admit for the fluid to work at its best it may be formulated and need material from your No 2 jobbies?

Having a GOOD seal to your toilet cassette can make a lot of difference - keeping smells trapped when loo not in use as opposed to seeping out and activating your olfactory sensors (your nose). I see further up the thread some people have fans that activate when flushing or opening the loo but not a true SOG system. I always assumed this was to create a negative pressure when you open the loo cover and PULL smells "down and away" rather than being wafted "up and out?"

Manage to pick up a sog for £40 of ebay on a charity ebay site.A bit bizarre for it to be on their, but a good buy non the less.i will have a go at fitting it when it warms up.😊

This thread reminded me i have a SOG in the garage. Ill make a start fitting it this afternoon. When i fitted the last one, the hardest part was finding an earth.

yes ours goes to no where as well. i did look to drilling out the hole. but on the Delaware it is too close to the wheel arch for comfort... so sod it i didn't bother ... but i don't know why, but i changed the carbon filter last year... Doh

I use this now in my van toilet. Very nice smell of eucalyptus oil,

I would recommend, we used this last year for the first time in the heat wave in south of France works really well.

My loo doesn't need any chemicals... my deposits have a pleasant Chanel N°5 aroma...

We have SOG to, no smell in MH but when you empty it OMG, especially after an indian 😳

Havnt got much choice other than a door type without doing quite a bit of alteration . Not that good then Lenny H.B.If it helps with the pong factor on hot summer days it will be an improvement 😉 👌.
It has a carbon filter , had a door fitted one on my Autotrail with no issues ( cassette door on opposite side from awning !! ) make sure yours is too though . Had 2 , on each PVC I’ve had through the floor , no issues again opposite side from awning . Fitted them all myself, easy DIY job . Recommend them for no internal smells and no chemicals required.

Reflecting upon diets and note that horse's faeces don't smell bad, nor do those of rabbits.
A dog's, however, doesn't smell as nice to a human nose; due perhaps to a diet higher in protein?
Personally, I am not of the vegetarian persuasion, but wonder if any of the "carrot crunchers" out there could say if their droppings smell any sweeter than those of their carniverous colleagues? Are there any vegetarian site members who have observed that friends who eat meat have smellier poo??

Solbio for us as well, no bad smells
And you only need a very little squirt each time after you empty .
Before you start using
You Just have to make sure it’s completely clean from previous chemical used before etc .
