What is a nice smelling chemical additive that I could use for the cassette toilet? I read on here awhile ago about a nice smelling additive but cannot find it now. Anyone recommend one?

TA Steve

We keep our toilet smelling sweet buy dosing the grey tank with Zoflora disinfectant and only using bio liquid in the cassette
Same here :)

I was also told a drop or two of essential oil but have always been wary of what that might do to the seals and plastics.

Thinking of fitting a sog ,do they work well🤔
Yes, roof vent are best then through the floor ones I don't rate the door ones. I've had all 3 types
I modified my through the floor one to a roof vent. Roof vent ones don't have a filter.

Havnt got much choice other than a door type without doing quite a bit of alteration . Not that good then Lenny H.B.If it helps with the pong factor on hot summer days it will be an improvement 😉 👌.

I’ve been trying that after thoroughly flushing and rinsing out the blue gunk that came with the van. Seems to be a good product.

Only done a couple of trips with it so far, but happy with the results. Although I do love the smell of Blue.

That is the genuine Thetford one.
We also have one of those, noisier and runs on for ages unless you manually press the button to stop it after use, works OK though

I decant this into a spray bottle and spray after flushing, it smell nice and helps to keep the bowl clean and lubricates the seals. 1 litre lasts around 12 months.

I bought some that was supposed to be 'Old Spice', well it wasn't, but not too bad. However, it was a dark blue colour and so staining that any spillage required immediate washing off and after a couple of uses the entire inside of the cassette was coated in a blue film, which to this day has not completely gone, despite many uses and a few deep cleans. I threw the remainder away.

They seem a bit expensive for what amounts to a small fan

I saw a thing on some other campervan site by a bloke who made himself a DIY ''SOG'' with a fan from a desktop computer and some flexible pipe & bits from B&Q. Claimed it all cost super-little & works impeccably so if you're feeling adventurous....

I'm still happy with bio liquid. There is no smells from the cassette but Zoflora lemon in the grey tank comes up into the bathroom and smells sweet .

We have tried everything but Blue, which I cannot stand the smell of, Bio jelly pods worked fine, then we began to get unwanted smells. Eventually discovered the built-in vent that connects when you slide the cassette into the locker had broken. Could not believe it as this is the second fitting I have needed to replace.

Clive Mott-Gotobed Clive Mott of MMM fame made his own version called a Pongo. :giggle:

I changed to bio washing liquid - or even diluted powder at a push - a while ago and have never looked back. The cassette is old and had been used with blue it's whole life, but it worked after a good clean. The washing liquid has that laundry smell to begin with and then goes neutral - you need to use a bit of it but it's so much easier to pick up than the blue. I also try to empty and rinse as frequently as I can, and use a spray bottle with diluted washing powder solution as the 'flush' because my pump isn't flow-activated and is a pain in the axx to run simply for the dribble that is supposed to be the flush!
