French Strikes and Blockades 17th Nov

Yes you are right @yodeli they're a problem, to me trying to get home.
But I can't stand appeasement so I won't put a yellow jacket on my dash and beep my horn. If you can't be true to yourself who can you be true to? I hope your dad's nurse can see the problem is the people on the streets not the politicians trying to modernise.
You and your family have my condolences.

If you don't mind , can you wait a bit please.... he's still alive ...yet! :D
I must have said it the wrong way. He's waiting for his end..... but nobody knows when the dear man will decide to leave. Now , of course don't worry I am not offended the least bit!(y);)

Apologies @yodeli someone once told me communication is what is actually received. Your meaning was received by me correctly its my meaning that wasn't received as intended.
My condolences were for your anquish at getting delayed medical treatment.

Please can we have an update on the situation. We wish to travel north.

Okey dokey! I'm used to it.... Sometimes it drives JJ mad.... Sometimes it drives me mad. Language is a funny thing, I learn everyday!!

Been out today and there were Gilets Jaunes operating on the roundabout at St-Junien so they are still active. As for the near future:

Tens of thousands of "yellow vest" protesters are set to descend on Paris on Saturday and authorities are concerned about extremists infiltrating the ranks of demonstrators, who plan to "block" the French capital. Here's what we know so far about what is planned for Saturday.
The French interior ministry has approved a 'yellow vest' (Gilets Jaunes) rally on the Champ de Mars in the 7th arrondissement of the French capital for this Saturday, saying it offers the "necessary security conditions" for the gathering.

The biggest problem with this protest from traveller's points of view is that they have no central organisation. These protests are purely spontaneous and arranged via friends and acquaintances, not via trade unions or political parties. It seems that anyone with time on their hands and a desire for power can put on a yellow vest and cause traffic mayhem. Also, the anti-establishment groups have hi-jacked the cause for their own ends. Paris might not be the place for a romantic weekend away this weekend.

It is a really interesting situation and I'll bet that Emperor Macron is a very worried little man.

wherefore art thou now @Armytwowheels ?
We didn't get as far as we planned but are now in the very lovely village of Labastide-d-Armagnac, not far from Roquefort.

It was a slow winding route but on the whole a good days travelling. Spain or bust tomorrow!

It is difficult to give any precise information as the protests are like a many headed beast, you never know where they are going to be.

We have been through some nasty ones and some friendly ones. Music playing handing out sweets and only keeping you for a couple of minutes. Others stop you for ages, with nothing moving and everyone getting more frustrated all the time.

My advice would be to go for it, keep an eye on Google maps live, you will see the hold ups building up in red, and avoid the major towns. Allow yourself plenty of time and don't expect to cover as many miles as you might usually do.

If you are going to skip off down the side roads to avoid the hold ups, take extra care as to weight restrictions and narrow/low bridges. We nearly got caught out today!

Direct action where the public suffer never sits well with me. I'm sure with a bit of lateral thinking they might come up with ways of stuffing the Government rather than inconveniencing their neighbours and fellow citizens.
You are right. We have seen people wearing their yellow vests just standing in front of speed cameras, having a coffee. Now that deserved a toot and a wave.

I've seen a speed camera wearing a yellow vest and a red hat (the red hat is the uniform of the anarchists). :D2

The fuel filling station is closed by yellow vests today.
W.e have just driven from Citie Europe to the tunnel and spotted them as we passed on the motorway.

I’m thinking of going back next week up through France from Spain, does anyone know how long this campaign is likely to last...?

I think the yellow jackets must have come to Bristol!

Oh, my mistake, just a normal Friday lunchtime

We encountered quite a few of the protesters today, and got held up only once, for a few minutes, in a small town. Had a chat with the very friendly protesters -- mostly about motorhomes and the fact that we are English

Arrived in Labastide d'Armagnac and had a nice lunch. Realised that it's Saturday tomorrow and things may get more difficult, so decided to make a dash for the border a day early. So here we are at one of our favourite sites, Gran Camping Zarautz.

Came up from Chateaudun yesterday, encountered 3 groups, one near Chartes, one near Evreux and the final one in Rouen. Had a bit of a laugh at Chartres, they had reduced the traffic down to one lane, big bonfires on the island, cooking food, drinks and generally enjoying themselves. The island was totally static, they were letting a vehicle through as and when they liked. At one point I said to my wife that I was bursting and had to use the loo, she said you can’t do that, they might start moving. Well I had to go and, excuse the expression, in mid flow she shouted that they wanted to move. No chance I replied I shall have to finish. Apparently the protesters came up to the windscreen as there was no driver there and gesticulated to ask her what was going on. She mimed somehow where I was which they thought was funny.

Moved on when comfortable having created my own ‘blockage’.
