Following on from a previous post where you lovely people gave your thoughts on the best way to travel round France in May /June. Decision made, we are heading south on May 13th. Could anyone recommend stopping places on route to the south please. We plan to go down over 3 days (or more) on non toll roads maybe longer if we like the places on route. Thank you.

We just drive a bit and stop when we see somewhere nice, sometimes we never get to where we were going at all and end up in an entirely different place. Follow the road.

Us too! We usually have somewhere in mind as an overall objective but are never in a rush in France.

We are (and did last year), May and June. We went Eastern France and sauntered into Switzerland and Italy and back to Massif Central and then up to Le Crotoy.

Depends how far you want to drive in a day and where you intend to head for in the south, east or west?
Also, where are you landing in France?
Just a bit more info please. Ta!

Richard.

We are off to Carcassonne on Friday. No planned stops but we will probably take 4 days to get there from Brittany.
We usually take the All the Aires book and search for a decent aire in the area we have got to.
It’s worked well for us for the last few years.

As above depends on what mileage you want to do.
Do to much in a day and it won’t be fun and you’ll miss a lot!
Remember too that south will be hot at that time of year.
We were going south last year but never got there, decided it was hot enough where we were!
Best to just go, wander along stop where you fancy and enjoy it!

We never plan where we're going. At that time of year the weather can be anything so we go south till it's warm enough.
