Hi all, we are planning a trip from the UK in late March through eastern France and then into Italy. We've been looking at the mountain pass that goes from Grenoble through to Briancon then onward to Pinerolo and finally Genova. We are in a Peugeot Boxer MWB campervan. Is it doable in a van and has anyone done it and does anyone have any tips or advice for the route. Thanks for any info.

As we had plenty of time we went down the the coast road from Rimini to Ancona oh boy that was a mistake took hours at 20mph trying to avoid the mammoth potholes.
We did something similar in our old Hymer in March 2014 Lenny on our way to Sicily. I am allergic to toll roads so we wound our way down through France to the coast, then round into Italy on the coast road-bad mistake. The roads were not only rough, but very twisty, narrow, and busy-took us ages, and most of the campsites were still closed……… In France everyone was open and ready for the season, as soon as we crossed into Italy they were all still asleep! We eventually wound our way down to Naples and then picked up the dual carriageway south-what a road, rough doesn’t even begin to describe it, the potholes were so large and frequent and kept knocking the van out of cruise control…….
We haven’t been down that way since!

Did that many years ago but sounds like nothings changed!

This is the route we have done. We prefer to travel in Germany, but that's just us. Not sure about the mountain pass side of things but I'm sure there are variations that you could take.
