FRANCE ON THE CARDS

So tests booked day 2 and 8, for our return, will be getting a lateral flow test on the morning that we leave, or maybe the day before, flexiplus tickets were already booked, travel insurance sorted, as is breakdown cover, all forms downloaded.
I have got to give the van a thorough service and check, must get the tracking adjusted, as the van pulls to the left slightly, gas is full as is fuel.
We will get most of the packing done this weekend, new tyres on the bikes, batteries charged, just fitted the new bike rack, so that's another job done.
I will start a thread when we leave on our experiences on the trip for info for others, which may be useful if anyone else is going to give it a go.

Before anyone sets off check out the thread on motor insurance where a country is on our amber list. France is still amber for us.

having issued green cards I don't see how the vehicle insurers can duck their liabilities.

Chinese killer bug of whichever nationally ascribed variant is fast becoming the best excuse ever for doing nothing.

I don’t know but it’s worth checking if you are insured before you set off I think. Just in case like.

Doesn't this suggest NO lateral or PCR test required if you've had 2 vacs?
Coming from an amber country (uk) it states

I'm confused even though I've read this thread and Googled info and found a range of private companies offering the PCR test from between £59 and £179 and yet the Gov't website says free kits can be obtained by post from the NHS.
The free tests, obtainable by post or from many local pharmacies are lateral flow tests. These are not PCR or Antigen tests. The PCR test is both more accurate and detects covid over a longer time frame. Neither test detects covid in the first couple of days from becoming infected. Most tests fro travel are specified as PCR or Antigen, so you have to pay. You cannot take a PCR test at a local testing station and use this as evidence, this is the free Govt test. This is the reason some medical personnel have been refused travel as the test was paid for by the govt. Very stupid interpretation of the rules, as NHS staff on the front line have regular checks as part of their job, not having a 'free' test to avoid paying.

What's the score on insurance, both vehicle and travel?
If your insured your insured.Our travel and van insurance is fully valid and we are away in Spain at the moment..BUSBY.

How was the crossing/weather?
Weather was great, crossing was smooth. Thank you for asking.

Ship, awful. If it was flying instead of sailing, there is no ******* way I would get on it. I will post a review of Brittany Ferries Galicia in a couple of days. ...........

Think of it as a game of poker. A green card is an extension but a policy condition is embedded in the policy and over-rides any extension. So in other words, an exclusion in a condition trumps the extension given by a green card. The debate in the other thread was the very strange exclusion (allegedly voiding the cover if travelling outside the UK if there were FCO restrictions) in the AIB motorhome policy - which has still not been properly investigated.

From the 9th June as an ‘Amber’ Country , travellers from the U.K. must have a very valid reason to enter France. Legal or Family are quoted. So it would appear that our French Affair is to be very short lived at present!

IF you have NOT been double vaccinated

Taken from the french consulates website,

From 9 June onwards, tourist traffic between France and foreign countries will be reopened under procedures which vary depending on the health situation in the other country and the vaccination status of travellers.
Countries have been classified on the basis of health indicators. The country lists are liable to be adjusted depending on changes in their epidemic situations (the lists can be found here: https://www.gouvernement.fr/info-coronavirus/deplacements).
The United Kingdom is currently in the "Amber" category
Travellers wishing to go abroad must find out in advance about any restrictions imposed by the destination countries (find out more here: www.diplomatie.gouv.fr/fr/conseils-aux-voyageurs). You are strongly advised not to travel to “red” countries.
France accepts the vaccines recognized by the European Medicines Agency (EMA): Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson.
Proof of vaccination is valid only if it shows that the full course of the vaccine has been administered, i.e.:
  • 2 weeks after the 2nd injection for two-dose vaccines (Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca);
  • 4 weeks after the injection for single-dose vaccines (Johnson & Johnson) ;
  • 2 weeks after the vaccine for people who have previously had COVID-19 (only 1 injection needed).

Looks to me like if you are vacinated +2/4 weeks you don't need the compelling reason but you still need a test less than 48/72hrs old. Easy enough.
