France First Time

Why has this thread turned into an argument, the bloke just asked for advice on a first trip to France, what's to argue about.
Just wish I was looking forward to our first trip to France.
My advice, don't be in a rush to get anywhere, we were guilty of that on our first trip, and still are to a degree I suppose but there is plenty of France to see, and to be honest are mostly the same, if you get to somewhere you like, don't be afraid to stay there a few days, never mind the plan, just do it as it comes.

You’ve been on here for 3 1/2 years and posted 3 times. 🤣🤣🤣
Possibly reading the rest of this thread could be a massive contributing factor to the Op’s lack of posts

I wish Jim would ban all the argumentative posters as it serves no purpose only to let others see how crap a lot of threads actually end up

If you’ve nothing good to say just stop posting or even better f off somewhere else and argue and leave the positive and fun loving members here to enjoy the forum

Could not agree more on all fronts. Some people can pick a fight in an empty room though. I too am also rather jealous of their first trip to France; our's was over 40 years ago! All those first experiences that we have grown blasé about now. Most of our life is on a "do it as it comes" basis now and we seem to get away with it most of the time.

Even more recently he asked people to keep things lighter and better focussed on motor homing issues. I expect most of us have opinions but don't use this forum to vent them.
Haha you are right but sometimes as you have just proven yourself it's hard not to vent them

Didn't understand that post actually, what's how long he's been on got to do with anything, he's a paid up member he can post as many or few that he likes, and as he hasn't been to France before there was no need to ask about that before.

it’s just crap to fill up Jim’s server and nothing more tbh, typical of a lot of forum posts when they’re bored or whatever 😟

Hi fellow Funsters, off to France on Tuesday for 3 weeks. Going to head South West to La Rochelle and Bordeaux area from Calais. Any stopovers worth considering or advice for a first timer, please?
ENJOY! It’s a bit late to start learning French! 😂🤣

Funnily enough came thru Rouen yesterday. It's not that it's that bad, more that it is a shock after earlier relaxed driving. I've had a few run ins with Ms Garmin on this trip, but she got me round there. Overall the way down further west was more pleasant.. Avoiding being near cities at peaks always helps of course.

More general advice is be prepared for shocking prices in the chic coastal bits. Rural France is much more reasonable. btw the spacious aire at Les Sable d'onnee was free at the mo due to broken barrier.

This is my first France motor-home trip, my toe in the water, I have Camping Card, Camping-car Park, Search for sites, and of course this channel for inspiration and guidance. Someone said go with the flow and that is my intention. See what happens.
Might be an idea to get an ACSI card too, sites are cheaper and lots of them!

Why ask as you seem to know where to go, first time we went all we had was a map and a destination. Been pretty well deciding our own routes since, don’t see the point on following someone else’s holiday destinations. 😎
It’s so easy now with all the apps that are available.
Oh dear!

Due to the rules about taking no food sur le continent, we just down loaded the Carrefour supermarket app and did a click and collect before we left the UK. We chose a store we knew we would drive past early on the journey and the time we would be passing and restocked the pantry and fridge in minutes letting some lovely french lady do our shopping earlier in the day. Simples.
