France, Belgium and Germany , cash vs card?

I'm sorry but I'm not understanding this, visa charge a 2.99% transaction fee on overseas debit card transactions both cash and card purchases, plus a less favourable exchange rate, how is that FOC? as long as you remember to pay into your clarity account the same day as you withdraw cash you won't pay any interest so it must be cheaper as there are no transaction fees on clarity overseas use.
Halifax do not charge anything for credit card transactions. Nil. They also give you that days exchange rate.
I use my Virgin bank account card for cash out the cash machines at zero charge .
Check it out.
Being a Yorkshire man I would not be paying any bank any fees any time soon :drinks:

Except Spanish toll roads for us… elsewhere absolutely perfect. 👍🏻
Don't know about Spanish toll roads but we have had problems with all our cards on French roads - seems the machines have a mind of their own and decide on the spur of the moment which card to accept. In addition to the Starling card we carry a Halifax Clarity card, our normal bank debit cards (for use in a last resort) and a cash reserve. That combination has worked one way or another in France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Greece and Turkey.

Currently in Crete and using the new Chase debit card. All transaction appear in the app virtually instantly with the current conversion rate which has varied between 1.16ish and 1.18ish during the week.

No other charges applied. Savings account paying 1.5% and immediate transfers between the 2 to keep account in credit.

yep they do.

Is that useful?

Could I move ££ into it then use it to pay in Euros or withdraw euros, and maybe ”play “ currency movements to make a few cents? any other benefits?…..or is it just tooo much hassle.

I have a Starling for sterling and a Starling for Euro. I had some Euros in a standard euro Bank account and just sent them to my Starling account.

What it does is pay for stuff in Euros if the vendor wants Euros. If the vendor wants sterling it pays it in sterling. Easy.

We are in Germany now the only time we were asked for cash was at the increase shop although the Aires are mainly coin only
Auto correct not increase its ice cream

Starling debit card has worked well for us.
I use Starling too though I just got a Chase Bank Card that pays interest and doesn't charge for conversion same as Starling!
