France - aires: noisy neighbours. What would you do?

I'm a newbie
So we’re currently staying at an aire in France, really quiet last night. But new van turned up parked a metre away, TV on loud all evening.

It’s super hot so we have to have the windows open. But it’s now 10pm, we’re really tired and need to sleep before an early start tomorrow morning.

Is it acceptable to knock on their door and ask them to turn the TV down so we can sleep? What would you do???
 
Any idea of the plate numbers???
If you see 93 at the end ... forget it!

Otherwise yes give a knock and ask for sound down
S'il vous plait , auriez vous l'obligence de baisser le son de votre télé, nous avons beaucoup de route demain . Merci beaucoup

Intreagued to know the significance of 93 and 12 ?
 
93 Seine Saint Denis departement, highest criminality in France, so indeed... you never know who is behind the door or even if it is the actual owner, or the robber...
13 Bouches du Rhône (Marseilles for example... second highest criminality)

Two further options:
Take the revenge is a dish best served cold route. Make small balls of dampened bread and lob them softly onto their roof in the early hours. The local birds will enjoy pecking them apart and squabbling over them at dawn.

Or, display the best of English mannerisms and diplomacy and after knocking, politely inquire if they wouldn't mind awfully turning it down a bit please in a while, if it's not too much bother. Then when they ignore you take the one good punch is worth a thousand words route.
 
Tried knocking and asking politely in my not very good French. Not sure they understood! Gave up and now got my ear plugs in.

Not a great start - this was our first attempt at staying at an aire after always using campsites. Doesn’t help that we have a van on the other side where the chap is smoking extra strong fags - so our van now stinks of fag smoke inside :(

PS - can’t move van as it’s 10.30, we’re very tired and had some wine.
 
Many years ago we camped at Le Boucanet in France and the German caravan next to us had encroached on our pitch so many times, that I gave up asking. Was making me angry

But their last night I went and peed all over his leccy cables behind his van. Was fun in the morning watching him coiling up all his cables ;)


I was younger and dafter in my defence ;)
 
If I stop on an Aire, I accept it’s a stopover and won’t be perfect. Most are, but I don’t worry about those that are not.

I would use earplugs, smile as I moved on early to my next adventure.
 
I’d move your van to another part of the aire if you can - even though you’re tired and had a wine. I can’t see the Gendarmes breathalysing you if you stay on the aire.
I would certainly accidentally set off the alarm in the morning or at least, open and shut your doors several times, shout that the brake lights work before starting up and then rev the knackers off the van just to clear the filters out before switching off, having breakfast and then Doing all of the above again, numerous times because dementia can affect anyone.
 
I appreciate it’s awkward as you don’t want to become a target for someone else by highlighting their behaviour spoiling your experience.
We have a right tosser who sits in his shed with his mates drinking and talking. Not a problem for his family as it’s 75m away from his house but 3m away from our bedroom window.
He’s been asked and told a few times over past couple of years. Tonight I feel may be another occasion.
 
We stop on a lot of aires and sometimes (not often)you just need to move away a bit,
. The good news is at least you can,at will, whenever you like, if you re that unhappy, chances are theres another aire a few miles down the road. On most campsites you cant without waiting for reception to open and then doing the whole queue and ask nicely routine and if there's nowhere to go and you ve prepaid you are stuffed.
 
Move your van seems to be the logical answer.
This is the one thing that concerns me using aires. However i do have a get you back, my good lady snores for England so the windows on the annoying side would be wide open.
Hoping some of the French Passion sites we intend to use are quiet.

Not necessarily quiet, but sounds of farmers doing what farmers do plus animal noise, but for us that is like being at home so never really notice.

That's what i said, move the van.
Mostly on a camp site the neighbour is generally a bit away from you. On aires i am reading they can be as litle as a mt away.
We will try an aire or two (gravelines being the 1st on the 7th June) whilst in France and report back what we think.
 
You didn’t buy enough wine!
 
When this happens to us, we move.
