Floods

Just heard from my stepdaughter who lives in the next village to Croston in Lancashire.
The village was under water again last night.
They are ok as their village is a lot higher but I remember when I lived in the village she lives in there were terrible floods in Croston and we used to see the chinook helicopters dropping sand bags to the river bank to build the defences.

We were unable to go from our village to Croston as the road was completely flooded.
I really feel for the residents and the village church as they under water yet again.

No its an old cotton mill by a river . It did have a flood warning when buying it but obviously being on the first floor it is unlikely we would flood . In 60 years ive never seen it flood down there.

Same here.

When I was a kid, they dredged the river and cleaned it all up. It was crystal clear and you could see to the bottom of it. Mid 79’s from memory.

River levels are rising in the Lower Don Catchment due to heavy rainfall yesterday evening and overnight into today, 01/01/2025.

River levels are forecast to peak at Kirk Bramwith around 22:00 PM this evening, before gradually falling overnight and through the day tomorrow, 02/01/2025.

Flooding is possible with low lying land and roads expected to be most affected. Ea Beck is starting to spill into Thorpe Marsh area and this may lead to Forstead Lane becoming impassable this evening and overnight.

Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.

We are closely monitoring the situation and monitoring rainfall and river levels. We do not currently expect to issue any flood warnings for this area.

This message will be updated by 08:00 AM on 02/01/2025, or as the situation changes.

Heard about the floods on the news this morning, we had about 20 mins of rain in Chester yesterday so was amazed to hear of the problems. Hope everyone’s ok tho.

River levels are high on the Tidal River Ouse as a result of a combination of high tides and recent rainfall. Areas most at risk include the tidal foreshore and agricultural land adjacent to the river from the A63 near Selby to the Yokefleet, Blacktoft and Faxfleet areas. We have closed locks and flood gates in the area. We expect levels to continue to fall slowly with the tides over the next few days. We continue to monitor levels closely. People in these areas should consider taking action now. We urge people to take care and not drive through flood water. This message will be updated by 21:00 on Friday 03/01/2025, or as the situation changes.

River levels remain elevated in the Tidal River Aire Catchment as water from rainfall in the upper Aire and Calder catchments works its way down the River Aire.

River levels have peaked at Carlton Bridge but will remain high over the coming days. Some of the surrounding washlands continue to fill.

Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the River Aire, with low lying land and roads expected to be most affected, particularly around the River Aire from Temple Hirst to Airmyn.

We do not currently expect to issue any flood warnings but will do so if required.

We will continue to closely monitor the forecast as rivers will be responsive to any further rainfall. A period of rain and snow is forecast late on Saturday 04 January into Sunday 05 January 2025.

This message will be updated by 8:00 PM on Friday 03/01/2025, or as the situation changes.

With regards the original post the water has cleared leaving approximately 120 cars ruined. All the ground floor flooded with all electrics affected and all residents evacuated to hotels , parents and friends etc. We are away my son has access today to check the flat over and empty the freezer of rotting food. We fly back Monday to see the damage. One thought is because it was newyears eve the flood gates down river weren’t opened and the obvious happened. But lets see in a couple of days.

No there was three feet in the carpark but the ground floor drops away it was nearly upto the ceiling on the ground floor not far off the floor of the first floor if that makes sense.
