I do not pretend to have much of an idea of what the difference is between the two, other than the appearance of them.
We have a new Vauxhall Corsa as a runabout , it has a radio but no CD player. When in France I have to listen to French radio and have difficulty finding music that I enjoy. There is a USB port, and I understand that I can download my CD's onto "something" and plug it into the car radio.
Can anyone suggest which is the best way to go about it. It has been suggested that I can use my phone to transfer music, but I would rather have a dedicated "something".
It is probably obvious by my posting that I have little idea of what I am talking about.

Buy a memory stick like the SanDisk cruzer fit. 16gb is plenty for music, Then you need to put music on it on a compooter. Use the copy & paste feature.

Not knowing the Corsa , is the USB port part of the radio or simply a charger port for a phone? If the former then as said by @Richard and Ann, copy musics from a pc onto the USB stick, you could even have several with different selections depending on mood.

I agree - except for buying one off eBay as there are many fakes about.
You'll be able to fit about 8-10 albums per GB, so 8gb or 16gb or even 32gb will be more than enough.

A USB hard drive tends to have a higher storage capacity - 500gb or more, perhaps more suited to video files.

If you have any form of music storage; an Ipod, cheap shuffle or phone with music stored on it, it should be possible to plug it into a vehicles system through a USB or audio jack point. Some sound systems have either a mini jack point or Iphone connection.
My car has a USB dedicated socket for Apple pods, pads or phones making it very easy. My MH has a mini jack point on the radio, which I plug my Ipad, shuffle etc into. Works perfectly.

"USB Memory Stick" is a generic term. Takes less power so better change of it working.

Next word you need is "Rip". The process of transferring from a CD into computer memory is called ripping.

If you put your CD into a computer drive the player should offer "ripping".

Then you copy from your computer drive to the memory stick.

Simples.

Another thing you might try is if you have a streaming service like Amazon Prime (other services are available) on your phone connect your phone to the radio and you will have Millions of songs available. I connect my phone via bluetooth to my stereo i can listen to streaming music, run the navigation app (Co Pilot) and it will turn the music down whilst giving turn instructions and if a phone call comes in that can be handled hands free as well.

Thanks everyone. I now have a SanDisk on order from Amazon. Now the problem is I have lost all the music that I had on my Lenovo. I spent ages a couple of years ago putting all my cd's on it. I cannot find it anywhere so will need to start again.
Do I need to put everything onto my computer again and then transfer it to the memory stick, or can I move it straight onto the stick?

It maybe easier to sing to myself as I drive down the road, but my singing is as good as my computer skills.

I have messed it up again, hope you can read my post.
Yes you'll have to put your music back onto the computer if it's gone. It doesn't usually just dissappear though, try using the search box at the bottom of the screen, search for artist or track name.

I could be wrong but you could possibly be over thinking this.

Regarding the USB port in the corsa, it's a lot handier using your phone/ipod plugged in to it rather than an actual flash drive type device.

I'm presuming you don't have iTunes? Or no music stored on your phone? If you did it would just need plugged in to the port and choosing 'aux' option on the stereo to play it.

It will take you a while now to rip all cd's etc on to your new drive.

Somewhere I had an MP3 player which I assume is similar to an iPod. It is probably stored with the stuff we emptied out of the rejected Carthago.
Everything is stored waiting for the new MH to arrive in July.
I have seen iTunes on my iPhone but I do not know anything about it. I will Google it. I have spent an hour this afternoon ripping some favourites . I don't need hours of music in the Corsa, as it rarely goes more than 50 miles from home.
Thanks for the advice.

I use iTunes. Take a few minutes to register for a new account and then you simply buy the albums/songs you require. They will always be in your iPhone to play in your corsa or headphones or whatever tickles your fancy.

You can also rip all your old CDs in to your iTunes library but that maybe taking things a bit above your level for now ;)

I've got it, I really think I've got it.

I just needed pointing in the right direction. I have ripped my cd's onto to my computer, and my Sandisk has just arrived in the post. I think that I have transferred the music onto the Sandisk. I will soon find out as I am on my way to the Intermarche soon, all being well singing along as I go.

Many thanks to everyone.

So if anyone sees a corsa fleeing around pumping out some dutch techno they will know who it is.

Nice dog by the way, is it an alsation?

Yes, he is Casper a long haired German Shepherd, we have had eight in the 45 years we have been married, always two at a time. But when Maisie died we decided we would stick to one. More room for us in the motorhome.
The music worked in the car, Patsy Cline going Neil Diamond coming back. I think Queen is the best driving music, but I seem to have misplaced my CD.
