Because all those items are useful.
A pole with a load of flashing lights that you can’t see ‘cos you’re inside with the blinds closed serves no purpose except to annoy me. As I like my blinds open.
However recent trips away at Hillhead and Pentewan was more like a visit to Blackpool illuminations!
Yes I’m also a grumpy git because I love camping for getting away from it all and enjoying the magic of a pitch black sky.

I'll agree there's a time & place for everything... and a dark skies location isn't it...
... but a loud jolly rally, why not have a bit of fun

On the third evening of a motorbike event a pal and his new lady-friend yet again left the beers and the very rowdy BBQ unusually early and turned in.
From previous nights' suspicions it seemed a good idea to uproot his tall flagpole with flag and very quietly secure it horizontally with cable ties across his Hymer's rear rack at shoulder height .

(He hasn't used it since).

Got ours at a show from https://lifebreeze.co.uk/ don’t get the 5m whips as the tops are too flexible, I got the 7m which don’t bend too much in the wind.

Probably best to buy one from Wales judging from the amount that have Welsh flags on them.

I thought it was a competition who’s got the longest one or the most flags or the best colours.

Had to laugh the other week on a rally in Wales when one friend had his 5m pole and flag at a lower height. He uses Mifi and the aerial usually sits neatly within the inner confines of a roof 'vent' - but no wifi - so he tried it tethered to the top of the flagpole, success - but the length of the cable through the top of a side window limited the height !

We - opposite him - couldn't even get a phone signal.

We use flag poles a lot.. with various flags..... If we are going to a particular area I sometimes buy the relevant flag, flying it at the top of the pole with a George Cross or union flag below it
I have fought shy of the lights, because like others, I sometimes enjoy sitting looking at the night sky without all the light pollution me, as a town dweller, usually suffers
