Fitting USB-C sockets-advice re fusing please.

Thanks to Lenny HB and Richard n Ann for adding to my painfully slow electricity education. Suitably reassured, I shall buy the USB socket and enter stage two of my mighty project! 🙂

Edit. When I get the socket, I propose cutting off the Vision plus plug and using the bare wires to connect to the USB. I suppose to prevent the possibility of fusing by cutting, I should separate the wires slightly before cutting them one at a time? Or just pulling the 10a fuse before cutting?

Fuse rating depends on the cable size the fuse primary function is to protect the cable.
Apart from being the most expensive USB socket in the world if you are using both sockets at their max rating it will draw approx 6 amps.
Here are the usb's I fitted, cheap enough and they do the job.

And as none of my premium bonds came up this month, shall limit my USB socket purchase to something less expensive than I first proposed. 🙂

Would you mind please telling me the details?
The one with the white cable is 2x3A usb with voltmeter and on/off switch, about £18 from Ebay.
Search for 12v CBE C-line socket charger voltmeter and you will find plenty, you can get the surround from same people.
Not sure if I can name suppliers on the forum ?
For the one in the top photo, search dual usb car fast charger socket power outlet.
That one was about £13.

If you thought that was expensive then this one will surely knock you off your chair.
This one will bump the voltage up from 12V unlike most of the cheap ones though, so enough muscle for high performance laptops etc.
Edit. aaaaand I just noticed the timestamp.. sorry

I just did a Google search for "12 volt USB C sockets" and chose the Thlevel model - see screenshot below. I don't think I can really recommend them as it's only been fitted a few days. It seems to work but for how long remains to be seen. :)

We are off to France in a couple of months and that will be the first proper test.

Anyone know of type c sockets without the annoying lights.
Just remembered, I've got an oblong one.
Search on eBay for Car 12v-24v PD type C USB Port Fast Charger. See photo below. Top left of photo.

Still means you can't use them at night.
That's right, don't need the ones like that after bedtime.
My shunt is annoyingly bright and the diesel heater controller has a really annoying blinking light.
My wife made some covers for them, attached with Velcro each night; sorted.

Not a good idea if the cable supplying it is only rated at 5 amp, good recipe for a fire.
Just out of curiosity Len.
Primary function of the fuse is to protect the cable but shirley it is protecting the device as well ?
On the subject of fuse size.....My 12v fridge/freezer pulls 16A on start up but 2.2Ah on average.
From memory, I ran 50A cable to it starting with a 20A midi fuse.
I know the cable is oversized and the cable run is only 2m but is the 20A fuse size OK ? Or could it be smaller ?

If the socket fails and pulls high current the fuse will protect the cable from catching fire.

With a startup of 16 amps 20amp would be about the minimum. You don't say what size cable , the fuse should be lower than the cable rating.

Did say, 50A.

Right Lenny, I’ve just bought twin CBE usb sockets to put in the bedroom above the bed, where shall I get my power supply from and which end do I fuse? Socket end or source?🤯🤯🤯

Tap into the lights as they draw less than an amp, lighting circuit will be fused.
I home you brought the aluminium body ones, I get fed up repairing the plastic ones.
