Fitting an iNET box - anyone done it?

Simple answer is no. The Inet Box operates via Bluetooth or SMS message from your phone. It does not do Wifi. Guy

How about Bluetooth link to it from a Teltonika RUTX12 etc. using RMS?

for a SIM just to be able to turn the heating on
It is a bit cleverer than that, as especially when your van is in storage. Just a few of the Alarms shown in attached.

Stonemags76 . I now have an Asda sim card which I intend to use with my net box. Did you manage to activate your sim card without a mobile phone. Even when I go online to register & activate it it seems that the activation involves sending a text to that number. Do i have to go & find an old phone & activate it through that. Thanks

Is there an option to send an activation message to an email address as well? Last one I activated for a mobile router - Smarty - had that option.

Orion that’s the problem, I can’t see an option for it to do this. May have to be a different provider.

Paul. Try https://rwgmobile.wales/rates/
Choose the free SIM card and they will send one out to you. When you get it email them to activate and you have 50 mins or 50 sms plus 250mb data free every month.
Working a treat in mine. It does take a week or 2!!! For the sim card to arrive.
Theres no mention of cost on the free option. so how do they earn anything from you?

I use GifGaf for my iNet box. Not renewed the GoodyBag I just use auto top up, it works out cheaper.

Best to avoid any sim that operates on the Three network, they are phasing out their 2G coverage. Many monitoring devices rely on 2G for connection to a mobile network.

I think I stuck it in my old mobile. Bit awkward as I had to make it the tiny sim, then put it back in the outer shape, if you get what I mean! Works now anyway! Good luck! 😀

I've not tried the sim yet, I got one of the welsh ones :-)

Just sent for a Giff Gaff one so will see if I can sort that one. If not it’s sort in old phone. Thanks

We've got an iNet box. The app probably makes more sense than the manual control panel, so when I'm in the van, I often use the app instead of getting up and twiddling the control panel wheel.

But when you're more than about 10metres away, it can't see the Bluetooth anymore. Instead the Truma app switches to SMS mode. You press a button on the app to request current status or to change settings. The Truma app automatically writes a special text message for you, which gets copied into you phone's text message app. You then hit send in your messaging app which goes to the iNet box. The box then text messages you back. But the text stays in your messaging app, not the Truma app. It's a bit clunky and they could have made it a lot better.

You are right, it is a bit clunky but still useful. Strangely the app doesn’t have the facility to turn the water heating to boost, it tells you it is on but they seem to have forgotten to enable control of it. The app gives you the water temperature which is really helpful when you are waiting to shower, something the panel lacks.

iNet boxes don't use data. Only texts.
Mine is still working without issue. Not paid a penny for txt messages as yet so all good for me. ;)

Thanks for the heads up on this one. (y)

I presume they’re treating the ‘Free’ SIM with included relatively low amount of txt etc. as a loss leader, in the hope that the average phone use subscriber will upgrade at some point.

Ideal for txt based applications though- I’ve a couple of trackers fitted to quads that require very limited txt activation and interrogation, so will give one a try.

I fitted mine in press where TV cables run as it does not necessarily have to visible I got a short RJ 12 cable to run from CP plus to it and using the cable taken off the CP plus to go to boiler. Very handy it all is. I had a few problems with first SIM provider as it starts at G3 but Truma only needs G2 so I switched to Clear Mobile which is a no frills service in Ireland from Vodafone.

Mick, I know I've been in England longer than my home country of Ireland when a fellow Irishman talks about the press and for a second I wondered what you were on about! I wonder how many on here know what that press is?:LOL:

I use a giffgaff pay as you go for my tracker. I put £10 on it 3 years ago and no top up required since. I send a text message every 6 weeks or so to keep it alive.

Thanks for that. It’s exactly what I hope to do. Instead of messing with the Asda sim which needs to be activated in a phone I sent for a Giffgaff one. Arrived yesterday so have registered the number but haven’t paid yet as wasn’t sure. Now I can try and fit the card then can pay up and use it. 🤞🤞

Wardrobe?

right, finally got round to setting up the rwg sim and all I did was take it out of the card and put it in the inet box.
I have set it up in the app, its accepting commands but not texting me back, then I realised Ive not technically activated the sim so back to the welcome email, press activate now, which opens an email to rwgmobile with the heading activate free sim.

I assume now I sit back and wait until it's activated?

I had that cupboard thing out with a few RNLI inspectors in my time and I told them you can store everything in a press and a cupboard is only for cups:unsure:::bigsmile:
