I apologise for my very direct response, it was more targeted to your reference as to check with the consumer protection act, after you used it for 5 years in a mobile application. As you realise the one at home gets plugged in and sat on the counter. The one in the van, gets put away up-teen times and you should have a more robust plug.Yes, thanks for that. I, like probably most people, were not aware that one needed to check their plugs. I ‘ll do so in future. Most other devices in the van have moulded plugs.
In which case clean the bakelite part carefully to remove all the blackened part. Check carefully that the piece between the live connector and the earth pin is intact and still solid. If not bin it even if it means boiling water in a saucepan on the hob. Just not worth the risk in a confined space. You have ridden your luck with it this far.Done this but needed to use existing plug as in Portugal and I can’t buy UK three-pin plug.
Absolutely no need for any apologies Raul I appreciate the advice and very much respect all the information you provide. The reference to the Consumer Protection Act was because it creates an obligation on the manufacturer of products to provide safe products and doesn’t require any contractual relationship between the manufacturer and the user.I apologise for my very direct response, it was more targeted to your reference as to check with the consumer protection act, after you used it for 5 years in a mobile application. Again apologies for my abrupt answer.
Not user error. Not touched the plug until this problem.manufacturer or user error?
I'm a bit surprised that a 1.1kw kettle would be described as low power!I have one of these, no problems in the 15 months and I use it in the house too.
"Normal" kettles are 2000-3000 watts!I'm a bit surprised that a 1.1kw kettle would be described as low power!
I agree it’s to protect the cable. That’s why I wouldn’t want a 13A fuse on that cable. I doubt the cable is designed for 13A - the manufacturer has probably gone for the cheapest they can get away with. The fuse is to protect the cable, I would leave it at 13 amps. A 5 amp fuse might get warm![]()
