Making plans for next year and we are finally getting round to the around Ireland trip. We will cross to Rosslare and leave via Belfast. Anyone know of fishing opportunities that give access and allow for overnighting in our 7.5mtr van?

Tight lines,

Keith

Keith, CaptainPaul might be able to advise. He's been chatting on Tam (Northernraider) thread whilst he's travelling in Ireland.

You might want to look at his thread, if you haven't already, for ideas for places to park. Tam n pups winter trip 2022

Think you can buy a ticket to stop at many of the boatyards along the Shannon. Not been for a number of years don't know if it's changed?

Lough Erne in County Fermanagh has some good pike.
Riverside Farm, Enniskillen would be a good base for a few days. You may need to hire a boat to get to the best locations however.

Northern Ireland (UK) require rod licences and permits although nobody really checks but Republic of Ireland all coarse fishing including trout & pike fishing is completely free, most big pike 20Ib, 30Ib are in the lakes, Lough Ree Lough Derg etc river pike tend to be smaller, from Jack's up to 10Ib 15Ib the Shannon has marinas along the whole length of it most marinas have car parks haven't heard of height barriers (due to boats being launched on slipways) you can buy Shannon lock cards in any shops which give you access to showers washing machines etc in all the marinas, trout fishing is best in the west of Ireland from Donegal where I live right down to Cork & Kerry and again the bigger the lakes the bigger the trout, Lough Corrib, Lough Mask, Lough Eske and all the tributary rivers not sure about over night parking at some of them but definitely inland waterways there should be no problems Ireland is a fishing paradise
All salmon fishing is controlled by local clubs but some aren't overly expensive and of course they do turn up in the trout rivers too (just don't be seen hiding them in your bag) 🤣
Best bet is to get an inland waterways map which will show you all the locations, parking etc and an ordinary map will show you the trout lakes & rivers in the west

Thanks captain, sound advice. Will let you know if I bag a PB.
Your very welcome, on the big lakes in the summer suspended dead bait on a drift float works best for the big girls, in winter dead bait on the bottom, mackerel always good, spinning waste of time unless for jacks, trout small spinners or nymphs or dry fly... salmon black flying C's 👍

Lough Erne for coarse fishing. If you fancy something different check out Lough Melvin in Garrison. Half the Lough is in N Ireland and it has a species of trout called Gillaroo. Spelling may be wrong but they have an orange tinge to them. Out of season now of course

My experience of fishing in Ireland dates back decades but for pike seek local advice. Those loughs are big so you need to know where to go and the best methods.

The trout we were after then were rainbows but the catches were falling off. We now know this was because the rainbow couldn't breed and the initially stocked fish were not being replaced.

So basically, I can't help. Too out of date. :)
