first trip planning

Do you need replacement bulbs or is that just recommended

No, you don't need them now. You did at one time but too many vehicles now need the whole assembly taking out to replace a bulb! It might be an idea to carry spares anyway, just in case you need to have one replaced at the garage. At least you'll have the right ones :)

Got 18 days in Cornwall for aug.
Might see how oct half term goes.
I might of mentioned it but I’ve not driven overseas for about 30 years. so i’m in two minds whether to just go to the north of France for three or four days to get the feel or just bite the bullet and go for about two weeks over Easter next year

I'd go for a short trip first. Somewhere easy to get to, with no narrow lanes and no stress. Get your confidence back, then your long trip will be a breeze! :)

Go for it! Start your planning and your dreams happen :) Bon voyage!! xx

Our first trip abroad was straight to Benidorm, ie somewhere English and not too far 😆

Tip: if driving at night just lower your headlights to the number 3 setting.

Don't worry about anything, You'll be fine 👍

I carry spare bulbs, they dont take up much space, though less useful if they are impossible to change as on some vehicles. I have a pair of complete front headlight units with right hand dip for continental use as changing them on a transit is easier than changing a bulb. Just need to make sure the left hand dip ones are on for the MOT.

cheers for all the help.
i`ve seen a few packages on amazon for travelling in europe. I notice a lot have the bulb packages but i might get these separate just to make sure i get the right ones. I take it you only need 1 triangle, some have 2.

Our first trip in van. Was basically.
Sell up buy a van (we'd never been in one before). Drive round UK for a couple of weeks saying bye to family and a sort of shake down thing.
Then ferry to Spain for 7 months (this was before Brexit). Only really came back as van needed MOT.
We had a great and interesting time. The only site we had booked was one called Haro. Other than that we just winged it.
Just go for it

I think I’m a good driver (I’m white van man)). I’ve driven Big vans most of my working life. My current work van is a Citroen relay L3 H2, not h3 l4 like my camper. Only problem is that when I drive the camper I forget I’m in the camper and think I’m in my works van I’ve got a sticker now on the windscreen reminding me that this is the campervan 😂
This was one of the reasons why I went for the largest boxer van because I knew I’d be comfortable driving it.
It was just driving it in Europe that worried me but now after reading lots of posts on here I’m ok

How much is it to cross these days?

I don't anymore but someone's just bought me 20 bottles of coors for fixing their amp. Think I'll put a few in the van for the next outing😊 🤔

It used to be that UK vehicles would be stopped soon after the ferry and the driver would be breathalysed. Further down the road, they'd be stopped again, to be breathalysed, and then be fined for having no breathalyser!!! Nice little money-making scheme for the local Gendarmerie. Fortunately, there's no need to carry them now :)

I have an underslung gas tank. Will I need any signage on the van for this.
