First time in France first stop advice please

Straight from the horses mouth, we got robbed while asleep in a service aire. Took as much as they could get their hands on including passports which was a nightmare to sort out.
Wow! Sorry to hear this.
You slept through it ??!!

We would never stop on an Autoroute Aire we only use free ones anyway. Much better to find a nice village for a peaceful overnight stop.

We never drive on an autoroute. (Well not paid ones.)

I get woken by the quietest sound. Sometimes I wish I didn't but i guess it would be useful in circumstances like this. We do tend to set the alarm at night anyway.

Hi folks 9th sept we have our first trip to France arriving of the shuttle at 20.00 then heading south on the A26 I would love to hear advice for a safe first stop after a couple of hours of driving, no services required then off on an early start in the morning, your thoughts please ?

If you need more overnight stops in France without any fuss it's worth signing up to campingcarpark.com. You can order a card for 5 euros online and credit it with 20 euros or so. Then just wave your card at the machine in the entrance to get in. Lots of sites all over France. EHU, wifi, water, waste etc. Not a campsite as such - but good if you just want to stop over night or to explore a local town/area. Perhaps feels a little safer than free Aires if that bothers you.

Alarm was set and wife is a very light sleeper. They were obviously well equipped for the task. Police said they are experts!

I stopped on an autoroute once I didn't want to but it was very late and I was really tired their was on other MH and lots of lorries. I parked next to other motorhome and took all precautions I could i.e. money keys passport all in bed with me. while i got away with it once I wouldn't do it again.
