I'm A newbie
Hi everyone, my other half came home from work last week and had bought a fiat ace capri 2006

I am still trying to get information as we have never owned a motorhome or caravan (before this site never heard of payload hab check etc)

I am looking through the documents we have for it and have fallen at the first hurdle I don't actually know what model it is!!!

Hpi check which says it fiat ducato 15 JDT SWB gross vehicle weight 3400kg engine 2286cc (the weight seems to match that on the spec's for this model)

V5C has gross weight and engine size, engine number all tying in with Hpi check

Then we have

National caravan Council certificate?? which gives Mtplm 3000kg no model but does have motorhome serial number?

Looking at the warenty and service handbook the only 3000kg motorhome is a fiat ducato 11 SWB with 2l engine

So now I have no idea what model we have? I would imagine V5C is most accurate but is there anyway to confirm

I know this sounds like a ridiculous question only noticed this as I read about payloads

I will likely be asking a silly number of questions as it should never have been bought with our knowledge but hopefully it will come good

It hasn't got service history for last few years and there is no hab check but seem immaculate no damp smell etc

I have already spent hours on here just getting a basic knowledge and I am so grateful for the resource

I am terrified this will be a costly mistake

Hi everyone, some of these responses have had me in stitches!😂... I kind of want a goat now 🐐.... Maybe next week

.... after the small(ish) domestic once he came back from work (somehow me noticing the issue made it my fault 😂) ... Been to the van and checked all the numbers and labels, seems like all is OK, and it's the van we thought and vin / serial numbers all match up (the silver plate under the bonnet says its 3400kg) 😁😁🥳

Genuinely thank you all for the responses, they did make me get a little bit of perspective 😌

I am really looking forward to getting out, not too long to go hopefully (I am in the shieding group for COVID, so today was the first time out of the house since 15th march)

I'm off to read some more and no doubt will be back soon (probably asking how I can convince him not to spend stupid money💰 on a new stereo 🤔😂)

Thanks again

Don't spend any money on it for at least 6 months you will know then it your keeping it.
But I have just noticed you have been shielding now you can use it to your best advantage , (if your in England) grab a picnic go find a mountain, common, park and have a few dyas out you have all the facilities you need and he can learn how to empty the toilet cassette. (You never quite get the hang of it ) you don't have to over night just use it as safe haven.
Have fun

Welcome 👍
Has to be one of the best newbie threads I have read since I joined.
Happy travels!
Me too, it makes a pleasant change to have someone who pays their dues before asking questions, just ask anything, nothing about MHS that can't be answered on here.
Makes a very nice change from doom and gloom.
Keep asking (y)

Actually, I think if you had to choose one person to choose as a role model for motorhoming, you wouldn’t go far wrong with chaser
I’m sure your right, just a pun about the leaning tower

Victory great first post, don't worry about any questions you have to ask, have been motorhoming on and off since 1987 and still come on here with questions. some are even about motorhoming 😉
:HelloThere::pink:

We also have a check list thanks this has reminded me I need to make a new one as we have changed our van and some can be omitted, but a few more added.
Just use stuff from home to start with and most 'specialist' shops are more expensive than range, dunelm B&M (other outlets are also available)Dont forget the corkscrew and bottle opener.

Yes a check list is a good idea we have one tucked into the sun visor, its also got height, width and length on. Have fun just swop you home bubble for a moho bubble for a few hours, saved my sanity while shielding.

Your right at the start of a new adventure & you'll soon pick up the jargon etc.
The help available here is second to none & don't be shy in asking what might appear to be a silly question.

Greetings peeps welcome from West Kent.

You will never know it all, but there is always one who thinks he/she does

Don’t forget to save the posts that are information filled. You will never remember all you read. Make lists in a book for instance tyre pressures wheel nut torques, and keep it in the van. Get some spare bulbs and fuses
Most people like to help a fellow enthusiast. Make a note of who on here proves to be the most knowledgeable and PM them.
That’s my penny worth 😂😂😂

Know how tall it is including the satellite if you have one especially in your live surrounded by low bridges
Just enjoy it, don't forget the daft hat and if possible a cute doggy.🐶🎩
One good piece of advice we got was to have a short checklist you can leave on your dashboard or hung on the steering wheel when overnighting anywhere. It would include things like "skylights shut", "steadies up", "cable reeled in", etc. Basically a last-minute check that you can leave without any unnecessary drama. Simple and effective, we found.

I have a packing list, done locker by locker so I can check everything is where it should be (still forget things though!) and we also have a "pre-flight" checklist. I sometimes feel like cabin crew as I walk down the motorhome checking lockers and drawers are closed and fastened, skylights shut etc etc.

Under the visors we have an "important information" sheet with details of the size of the vehicle (it is wider than 2.2m so can't go in the outside lane round the Gateshead Western Bypass) and also heights and length, type pressures, insurance details, including breakdown insurance. I have the same in the car now :)
