MH
Keen to buy 1st MH
Exp
Newbie
Hi,
Firstly, thanks to all those who helped me with sound advice as we’ve looked to buy our fist MH. We get it next week and very excited!
A while back I read a thread on here about essentials when staring out but can’t find it using the search function so I thought I’d create a new thread.
What I was after was an idea of what we need for our first outing. I appreciate its probably an obvious list but any pearls of wisdom for us as a family of 4 and dog.
I remember reading about a low voltage toaster and stuff like that.
Thank you 😊

I set up this list when we got our motorhome, as well as what you need it includes what you need to do in preparation before a trip. One or two items on the list of things to take, like a tent, are not essential.

Oh thank you! I too am new and we don't have our motorhome yet (Aug/Sept) but I've printed this off, will be very useful. Under van essentials you have chocks. Is that chocolate?

Just go without too much overthinking. The best times we had were when we forgot things like bedding. We spent the weekend sleeping in our jammies with clothes on top. The week I forgot to pack ladies underwear and the only place I could find knickers was in an iron mongers!!! They are real large kidney warmers and I wear them in winter now. 😂

Get a small water pump, very cheap fits into your cigarette lighter, one end into your large water canister with a clear pipe up into water inlet on side of MH.
Saves hours of pouring in manually if no water tap close by.

Download MAPS GO free by Google onto phone if no satnav.

If family of 4...then an internal wifi dead simple to install or have it done, especially as everyone's on their phones - tiktok, youtube, emails, Google, watch tv.!!!!Trust me campsite wifis are too slow.
Got mine from www.motorhomewifi.com keeps the twins happy when bored and its raining. Even works on the move.

Loads more but our motorhome is an old one, so fitted a topper as seat cushions for bed not comfy...got one from Panda. Solar panel means we can go off grid/ day trips and saves campsite fees or extras for hookup. Digital TV from Sniper, made sure all 4 tyres were changed as were over 5 years and 7 on front. Safety first.
Maintain 2 gas cylinders in case one runs out!

Even after all these years I still prowl around fir SHORT kitchen utensils to fit in the drawer
And we still take far too many clothes be it summer or winter

ive discovered lockdown has similarities in that aspect - scruffier clothes worn fir longer....

Best advice is to spend one or two nights on your drive.
Don’t go out & buy everything use stuff from the house you will find some bits are not needed.
Look at Amazon for a toaster you can use on a gas ring we have one & it works well-put Bright Spark into their search.

Peterc 10. Have a couple of nights at Crowborough that’s your nearest site. We had 2 nights there last year.👍🏼You will then find out what you need

Chocks are to stop your van rolling off the levellers
You could use Mars bars but they melt in the sun😂

Was there a wooshing sound as you read my post, because you have clearly misunderstood it. :ROFLMAO:

I have been motorhoming for 7 years and know exactly what I want to carry and what not to carry, because my wife tells me.

I've got a garage that is full of stuff people told me was "essential" when we first bought a MH. We duly loaded the MH up - but every time we came back we took stuff out we hadn't used. It's useful for us to think about "mandatory" vs "desirable". "Mandatory" is money, passport, phones. "Desirable" is anything else that you fancy taking but probably won't use - in the end that has extended to things like the TV, in our case. "Desirable" is where all the "depends on your lifestyle" choices sit - and you'll find them for yourself.
