First and last van build

Hello I'm Marie, Married to Ben
We are converting a boxer, Started in January this year with plans to head off into the sunset by March  (what were we thinking)
7 months later we are about 70% done and its looking more like a camper now.......Never again
I'm sure it will be worth it, I hope it will be worth it. Kitchen drawers are being fitted today, It must be going well as there's no swearing to be heard!
Only just found this site, Wish I had found it earlier

Welcome aboard. The very best of luck with never finishing it off as there will always things that you want to change. You wll become very proud of what you have achieved.

When I 'escaped' from fulltime employment in 2004 aged 56, we had just purchased a dealer stock ordered 'New' VW Transporter and were looking for a converter to build to our spec. Needles to say I bit the bullet and started to convert it myself. To cut a very long story short in the intervening twenty years to today I have converted four more similar campers all on new base vehicles and having used them personally for a few years sold them on.
For personal reasons our current camper was converted by a local converter to our specification not by me although I am embarking on a number of modifications to it!
Here is the last one that I did myself.

Please don't hesitate to ask for member's help or opinion we are all here to help.
Thank you, nice van but deffo not doing another after this, looking forward to getting off and adventuring 😊

I built mine last/this year. You always make mistakes and lots of changes-it’s normal. Always remember professional outfit will do your van in 6 weeks. But, there’s a whole team to work on it, trained joiners, electricians and fitters. They know exactly before hand what they are going to do, have all parts ordered and ready. I reckoned 6 weeks with four blokes was 24 weeks for me, plus mistakes and changes so basically 6 months minimum. Then you have weather….

I couldn't agree more!

Welcome to the forum.

I hope all goes well with your conversion.

Only piece of advice I can offer is to watch your payload.

Far to many people concert vans using B&Q kitchen equipment, heavy wooden roof panels , even porcelain Belfast sinks.

They will be overweight before you put fuel and water in
