Firestick on Avtex

Just set up our Fire stick on our Avtex Pro using the hot spot from my IPhone 8 on EE.
Perfect ITV Hub, I player, All4, My5, Prime, BT Sport and Netflix.
Watched an hour on Netflix perfectly, no buffering.
£24.99 very well spent and we can use our phone data we pay for anyway, plus I won’t miss Moro GP when we’re at Norfolk Show.

Just upgraded to the 4K firestick and it seems a lot better/faster than my normal one.

I find that our 4K Firestick operates better using a standalone HDMI cable, rather than plugged straight into the back/side of the TV, on both the previous Avtex, and the current Falcon TVs.

With not a lot on terrestrial TV last night, we watched the final two episodes of SAS Austrailia, as well as a spot of Catchup.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Ours is the 4K from the Amazon deal at £26.99 not £24.99 as I said above, it works perfectly from the the usb on our Avtex Pro, though in set up it said it was too low power.
We tried to set it up a couple of weeks ago from Liz’s iPhone 11 but it kept saying ‘not in range’ but with my iPhone 8 it found it very easily.
We have 120GB each on EE with our phones, so should be ok, always felt we were paying for data and not using it.

That's why I would prefer to use my Chromecast and use our phones mobile data, apparently there's a couple of options but the van's in storage so can't try them at present , using the same ssid and password at the van's MiFi network ( turned off) for a phone's mobile hotspot should apparently allow the chromecast to connect.

Is your "normal one" the original HD Firestick? Pre-2020
Rather than the next generation 2020 model?
As , on paper, the new generation FS look to share most of the 4K FS hardware (and should be a similar user experience)

We've got two of these cable/battery interfaces. The battery soaks up a bit of spare USB fed power and holds it in readiness for when the Fire Stick needs a bit more juice all at once to enable it to update or suchlike. Ideally, first time of using it you give it ten minutes to get ahead of the firestick, then once it has had its initial charge it keeps the firestick powered perfectly. They were about £20.00 each, but definitely worked for us. Search Amazon for Mission Cables, might still be available, we have had ours for about three years now. Use one at home and one on the MoHo.

Have the older one that takes a while to respond, new 4K is a lot better and better layout on the screen.

Can you use the 4K one with a non-4K monitor? Our new Carthago has an Alphatronics 32" flat screen monitor, and the typical media pack they deem suitable to install. I always shied away from upgrading the original firesticks to the newer 4K one's as I didn't think they would give us any benefit.

I don’t think our Avtex Pro is 4K, though I may be wrong. It’s described as Full HD LED but no mention of 4K.

Thanks for that, one arriving tomorrow. Hopefully that will save the need for an additional powered USB port, which is my main gripe about the Amazon TV powered by the Avtex

Yes, 4K is the max resolution.
The Firestick HDMI connection will (by magic?) work out if there is a HD only screen attached.
If needed you later can select lower HD resolutions in the FS setup menu.
Which you may want to do for data usage. And for that there is another menu area to set quality.

edit: clarity

Thanks for that, I might just have to wait until another Prime day comes around and snaffle me a bargain!

We had ours working perfectly from the Avtex Pro usb outlet, then the next day it wouldn’t have it, saying not enough power.
Got this off Amazon for £10.99 and it’s working perfectly, plus it charges out IPads too.
Turns one 12v 120w outlet into two 12v and two 2.4 USB’s.
