Fire Extinguisher Recommendations please.

We have a pair of JE-50 Firesticks which are almost at their 'use by' date.
However hopefully they will remain unused, and I'm surer like most thinks they last a lot longer than the 'use by' date.
(Like the famous lettice lasted longer than Liz Truss!)

It would appear that JE-50's are no longer manufactured, as all the ones I can see for sale have expiry dates in 2025.

So what would the hive mind suggest is the best replacement for a pair of general use fire sticks, with holders, that could be dealing with anything from a cooking fire to an engine fire.

Have you tried a search here on fun...I've contributed to various threads in the past...🚒

Are you confusing Firetool with FireSafetyStick? The latter seems to be a popular alternative to the traditional fire extinguisher, being quite compact, yet demos suggest they can be very effective. But they may hurt your pocket. Sometimes there are discounts if you look in the funster discounts thread area.

I bought a Fire Safety Stick at the Malvern Show this weekend.

It was £60 with a £5 Funster discount. No idea how effective it is -and hope I never have to find out- but it’s very small and light. It is supposed to have a shelf life of 15 years.

That's a good Show price - it's prompted me to ask the UK distributors if they can increase our ongoing 10% Fun discount code back to 15% again for their website - long shot but no harm in asking!

Water mist is my choice.
No good for cooker fires if cooking oil is involved.
This is what Safelincs says about cooking oil fires.

“Can water mist extinguishers be used on deep fat fryers?

Water mist extinguishers have been certified for use on Class F fires (cooking oils and fats), however following our own independent research, Safelincs does not recommend using water mist on anything above a 5F-rated fire (this is equivalent to an average domestic deep fat fryer). For class F fires above a 5F rating, we recommend a wet chemical extinguisher.”

I take that to mean ok for domestic use but not a chip shop fire.

The JE-50 firesticks were the thing to get pre-pandemic, however they seem to have never restarted production.
I guess another one of the many silent pandemic casualties.
Their (very good) products are now all approaching end of life.

The FireSaftyStick looks the way to go, but £100 a pop, they ain't cheap!

That was quick - just heard back - using link https://fire-safety-stick-4915.myshopify.com/discount/mhfun?redirect=/collections/all the Fun discount (automatically applied at checkout) has just been increased to 15% for a short time! It should beat all the other offers out there, especially with their bundle reductions & free delivery over £100, but if not please let me know :active:

If they have ceased trading this could be old stock?

We have a blanket by the cooker, a powder by the sliding door and a powder behind driver, and a FireSafetyStick grabbable from front half of van although as we sleep in the rear, I feel that should be moved to rear.

We have a 500ml Firexo extinguisher by the hab door which is supposedly good for all types of fires. https://firexo.com/
Also have a powder extinguisher in the garage and fire blanket above the hob.

And a means to detect and warn the occupants....Smoke alarms...

Thanks Wombles.
Just ordered one and got the discount but had to pay delivery (only £4) as under £100.
Looking forward to fitting in the van and hope it will just sit there and never be needed.
Just need a fire blanket now, but we have some seriously good ones at work in the hospital kitchens in really neat packs, so will see if I can buy one ordered through our central purchasing at the contract price. 😀

When we did fire safety training at work (ICI) the fire officers always said, only attempt to fight the fire if you exit is clear, otherwise just exit ASAP.
Sound advice...🚒

I also had JE-50s which I bought at the NEC several years ago after seeing them demoed. I now have Fire Safety Sticks in my van. They're expensive but I believe an essential investment.
