sister has changed what, and when she wants to do for her 70th, wants to go out for a special meal, and hopefully stay over, needs to be reasonable distance from home or her hubby wont stay 🤣
Needs to to at least do a good steak for hubby, not mega expensive, just a really nice place to chill and dine, oh and somewhere to stay in the motorhome nearby.

You don't get fine dining, a decent steak and a reasonable price all on the same plate. šŸ˜€ Would you consider any of the Buzzworks places? Largs Marina, troon Marina? Other place might be Lochhgreen in Troon, a bit finer but not sure about nearby parking.

Ship Inn, Irvine. Not posh or expensive, plenty of B&Bs around but not sure about a stop over for a motorhome as we park on our daughter's drive.

Thinking Irvine, Troon, Ayr is a bit close.
IRHP just meant not 3 michelin star prices, know it wont be cheap but do like VFM

Fine dining, Glenapp Castle, reasonable prices, Souter's, Kirkoswald. Also Wilding's at Maidens.

Our last meal out together was at Wildings was lovely, she wants to make a stay over part of the celebrations, would Glenapp let us stay in the motorhome do you think?
will have a look at Souter's too Kirkoswald always makes us think of papa, when she was quite young she told him that parents and an aunt and uncle, had had a trip there to look for a nursing home for him. Suspect there may have been a bit of truth in it.

The carpark at the rear of Souters is very sloopy and the last time we were there the maitre de was very sloppy.

I was thinking along similar lines. I doubt you’d find steak on a fine dining menu; it’s too simple.

Wildings, Glenapp, Turnberry all come to mind

or a wee jaunt over to Arran …

Somehow I don't think Glenapp would let you park up, however, in Ballantrae there is an aire near the harbour.

There is the community owned pub it's certainly good vfm but far from fine dining.

want something a bit special for her 70th, can see it being a take away from the local chinese place

I think the pub is closed, boiler broke down . Didn't see any life there last week and I passed it several times.

Maidens (for Wildings or Trump Turnberry) has a campsite - mainly static/seasonal touring but looks like they do the odd touring pitch. There’s also a lay-by stop over on Park4night.

Grianan, we stayed at the campsite near there when we were allowed a bit of movement during covid, ate at Wildings 4 of us at a table which would have seated 10. was a lovely meal, will sound her out about going there, we did enjoy it. Culzean Castle site is walking distance too, and cousin has a static at a site next to there.
Might start looking further north or we will have to 'hang about' rather than getting on with our journey.
Might try to bring it back a bit, she doesn't want it on her birthday  so maybe somewhere castle douglas, stranraer area , then we can bog off on our intended trip.

Hopetoun Arms Hotel.... Leadhills..
Good food and motorhome parking in carpark at rear with Leccy Hook Up...

scotzsue if you’re looking further south Sandhills has a nice restaurant I’m told, or Portpatrick. I can sound out a friend from the area if you like.
Feels more like a holiday too.
Further north what about that seafood restaurant on Loch Linnhe? Is it the Crannog?

Connor's restaurant in Portpatrick has closed, that just leaves two pubs and the Waterfront.

The Bistro in Ayr is very good - we regularly eat there. Stay over at Ayr Aire.
The owners have just opened The Stravaig (also in Ayr). Not eaten there yet, but is getting excellent feedback. Stay over at Ayr Aire.
Glenapp is very good. You ain't parking the passion-wagon there ! Ballantrae used to have an aire - not sure if it's still open.
Not been to Wildings (at Maidens) yet, but on our shortlist. Always gets good feedback though.

We have been to Wildings, it is good, and we visited Dumfries house last time we visited, but not for a meal. They are both within 'too easy driving distance' sister's words not mine, she wants an overnight stay as well as a meal. If we are too close her Husband will want to drive back, think she wants a morning off from making breakfast. Might start looking north but east coast way, it is a puzzle as she has changed her mind several times as to what she wants to do, am so tempted to get her a voucher and tell her to sort herself out 🤣
there's only the 2 of us though so maybe not the best thing to do.
