Fine arrived from Portugal.

Didn't @Mags52 & Shirley have the same thing a few months ago, not sure what the outcome was .....?

I used to work with a police officer who became a very senior one. He loved going through the motions of booking motorists only to then tell them that as he was in a good mood he would let them off with a warning and then ensure they got a summons later.
That was of course pre mobile phones and cameras.

@buttons This land is owned by the football club. They sell tickets to stay there. I bought a ticket and displayed it on my windscreen.

The police told me the football club sell the tickets illegally.

There are no no overnight camping signs.

Would you still pay?

Hi Jackie two choices, sue the football club or pay the fine, I think I would pay the fine.....How much did you pay for your ticket and do you still have the ticket..

There are no no overnight camping signs.

We have stopped on that car park overnight and whilst there are no signs saying no overnight parking there were some signs saying that camping behaviour such as chairs tables etc was not allowed.

When we stayed plenty where disregarding this and perhaps that is the reason the police visit occasionally and clear everyone off.
I am not criticising anyone who has fallen foul of this crazy situation, the football club charge for parking and even let you dump toilet waste somewhere behind their cabin and take water( not used this facility myself) and give the definite impression that overnight parking is OK and then the police visit at regular intervals and apparently now are trying to fine people.

I think you have done the correct thing in ignoring what ever was in the letter.

Don't think that I will be overnighting there again.

It is only €1.50 so the football club hardly make a fortune out of it, if the locals don't want motorhomes to park overnight then they should make the football club put up signs to that effect.

Are you for real?

Do you still have a parking ticket from April 2017?

And do please tell me how I go about suing a Portuguese football club from the Isle of Man.

There is something very dodgy going on. Even the police agreed. They told me they come two or three times a week to move people on. If the football club is charging for parking and then the police are charging in fines then it’s a nice little number they’ve both got going.

Yes. I think suing them both is just what I’m going to do.

/sarcasm mode

If the football club is issuing tickets for staying overnight and their is no signage then I think you would have a case. Send a copy of the ticket to the town mayor the football club the local news paper and the police. Let them sort it out between them..but don't let go of that ticket and any other communication. (y)

Yes Jackie I am skin and flesh...if I have signed a police report for parking then yes I would have kept all paperwork safe or even taken a picture of it with my phone for safe keeping. Just giving my opinion and thoughts as requested to do....(y)

A very good case.....if it was in the UK.......but this is Portugal and things don't quite work in the same orderly fashion:)

Bin the documents and ignore it, not worth the hassle.

Yours like mine is an opinion Matamoros......:)

I love reading all the advice from folk who don't quite get the incomprehensival situation at Armacão de Pera and give advice based on their experience of what happens elsewhere which, of course, has no bearing on the matter.

The rules of parking at that football ground have been a mystery for years.

Every now and again the GNR come around and move the campers off. Camping is not allowed (there are signs to this effect there now) but motorhomers still "park" there.

In the last couple of years I have often stayed there for a few days/nights with no problems at all but others have been moved off (and very occasionally "fined") in the same period.

It appears to be completely random.

One day someone will take the trouble to actually find out from the authorities, the GNR, and the football club what the position is.

Until then... each to their own!

But PLEASE don't talk about suing people... it's not America here... are you going to live long enough?

If only there was a button for; informative, love it, funny, helpful. thanks and nice one. all in one.

I would be pushing that button right now.

Thank you for that excellent assessment of how different things are between here and there. Thanks also for the insight into the mystery that is AdP.

A sign saying no overnighting means no overnighting whether it is printed in Portuguese or English..
Sorry this is not necessarily so, in UK any such sign must, to be enforceable in law, must carry ref to the local council bye law. As Highland Council found out to their cost when all their yellow no parking signs were deemed illegal and had to be removed.

I would agree but as there isn't one in this particular location and it is positively encouraged by the owners the situation is somewhat confused.

All I can do Matamoros is refer you to the excellent well informed post by JJ. He clearly stated that a sign is in place at the football stadium displaying camping and overnighting restrictions....

No Camping signs yes, no signs relating to parking overnight and as you may well have gleaned from this and other posts there is a difference in Portugal and Spain.

I think in my first post in this thread I mentioned motor homer's sailing close to the wind when deciding where to spend the night. You have just given the perfect example....

I assume all motorhoming Funsters know the difference between parking and camping by now...

I am fairly certain these Scottish bye laws have no relevance when considering such matters in Portugal... ;)

There are no camping signs on just about every official aire and parking place in Portugal Spain and France. If that’s sailing close to the wind I wonder If I could ask where exactly you stay in your motorhome when travelling?

Do you know what camping behaviour is?

Lots of people call this a football ground, but I am not sure why. Had a good look a couple of weeks ago when I stayed there and I could not for the life of me find a football pitch. Just a large building site where it was obvious that work stopped a good few years ago surrounded by a dilapidated hoarding. Ohh and, of course, a large bumpy car park.

It's not a football ground, that is elsewhere, it is owned by the football club, no idea how that came about.

Looking at it on google I think it likely that it was a football ground before the new one was built, looks the right shape and size.

It used to be the football ground. We saw many campers on there this year mainly French we also spoke to people who were camped there who were told after they had paid their €1.50 not to open the door to the police and to keep the blinds down. We asked at the Tourist information office and were told it was illegal to park there and you could be fined. Personally we much prefer to be on sites for security reasons we can leave the van for hours without worry we also like to have access to showers etc.

Change your van number for £ 80.00 and have a clean record.:D
Bill
I think it is forgotten that the van number is irrelevant they have a name and address so van number is less interesting than their personal details .

Having been camping for the past 40+ years Jackie I think I have a vague idea..:)
Stealth is my secret JP, nothing personal but your van does carry a certain label on it to the non camping fraternity....:censored:

Just reflecting on camping in the UK, we to had signs stating "NO CAMPING" would you believe that motorhomers ignored these signs in saying they are not camping they are parking because the step was not down and all chairs and tables and bicycles were stowed inside their motorhome. We now have signs that even the most defiant of motorhomer can understand. No vehicle with on board cooking facilities can park. If that didn't work then a height barrier normally does the trick...:sneaky:
I think that authorities along the med are now being forced down the same route :(
