We have a nationwide flexi plus account. We are Both 70 + so ha ve to pay a premium for that and I have to extra because of high blood pressure.
Not happy with the cost.
Any other recommendations please
Thanks in advance

We have a smilemore account (Smile is part of the Co-operative bank).

We pay £15 per month for the bank account. That gives us Worldwide Travel Insurance (including the USA), Breakdown Cover in the UK and Europe, and mobile phone insurance for both of us for £180 per year.

The travel insurance covers you as standard up to 79 years of age. One of us has high blood pressure and high cholesterol; there was no additional premium to pay when we declared those.

The main drawback to the policy is that any individual trip cannot exceed 45 days and they will not extend that, even for an extra payment.

I did look into the Nationwide Flex account as we wanted to go away for a couple of months this summer. Nationwide does have the advantage that you can go on longer trips. However, it looks like it would be quite a bit more expensive than we currently pay when you are over 70 and have medical conditions.

The smilemore account is no longer available but the Co-operative bank has an almost identical current account (Everyday Extra) for £15 per month.

We use flex plus. I opted to not have any cover for any blood pressure issues or thyroid issues. Both of those well controlled so negible risk. we only pay the age extension
Personally I don’t believe that it’s a good idea not to include them as you are giving them a get out clause for anything related especially to Thyroid problems. We pay an extra £40 or so each for the year for existing conditions which include Thyroid and osteoporosis for us both plus Lupus and high blood pressure for my wife.

We rely on the insurance with our Lloyds bank account covers us up to 80 years old & has a huge list of conditions which you don't have to declare, high blood pressure is one of them.
We have Barclays ( Arriva)stops at 80,

I agree, if you exclude BP cover you wouldn’t be covered if you had a heart attack.

Providing you are the only one insured to drive the vehicle you will be covered by your vehicle insurance.

I think you will have a problem as your wife is over 80.
Yo Lenny, just had a very informative phone call with Nationwide flex plus insurance, on a policy covering 80 days in Spain or Europe, I would pay the over 69 years old standard charge of £65 then an additional £120 for the 80 days this covers both of us so well pleased with that. We have no serious health conditions or issues. So defo worth setting up an account and paying the £13 per month charge for the insurance and all the other benefits including debit and credit cards with no charges for using abroad. Well chuffed and thanks for the input from other funsters 👍👍👍

Thank God I still have ADAC.:giggle: Breakdown cover for the van or any vehicle I am travelling in+recovery.Same for the wife. medical assistance + hotels etc & air repatriation as well 129€ for us both.
We have used Staysure

We use Staysure.
When using staysure ,or others who have the same clause, how do you overcome the "when travelling in own country first two night must be pre booked accommodation ,when you are using a MH?
To get cover with UK travel insurers does one have to declare UK residence?
Yes but Staysures european side will cover you I think Geoff. My wife used to insure herself yearly for travelling from spain to the UK

https://www.europesuretravelinsurance.com/

They were very good . no increase when she had bowel cancer just excluded any further cancer in bowel but not if it migrated elsewhere. The policy had to start from her home here in spain. Also when she flew to the Uk for work & was then proposing to travel on to Australia to visit daughter & grandchildren they advised her that to stay covered they would now change her "residence" to the UK for the policy so that she was starting from her country of residence. Then when she returned from aussie they changed it back to Spain for the flight home.
I think you might be excluded by age though?
I'd have a look at breakdown cover with ADAC, as above, they give medical insurance.

What health insurance would you use from 80 years old ? I think some companies want you to already have health insurance with them , me just planning ahead hopefully I get there plus! 😄

Thanks all, trip into Carlisle this morning to Nationwide BS office who were very helpful, so switched one of our current accounts over to a Flexplus account, they will take care of the whole process including direct debits etc and all will be completed in 7 days including closing the account with my bank. All the insurances kicked in this morning once they accepted my application for the account, will phone the travel insurance department next week pay the one off a year £65 age supplement and the £120 for our upcoming trip for 80 days to Spain. Well chuffed 👍👍👍

Who did you go to for the over 80s? My wife is struggling to find a reasonable cost travel insurance.
I used Medical Travel Compared to find companies and ended up buying through Rias travel insurance.
