We have a nationwide flexi plus account. We are Both 70 + so ha ve to pay a premium for that and I have to extra because of high blood pressure.
Not happy with the cost.
Any other recommendations please
Thanks in advance

I use their travel insurance and have almost the same spec as you. We pay an extra premium of £210 for the both of us for an annual policy. I tried to better it with others but couldn’t get anywhere near it. Depends on what you’re extra charge is ?

I was quite happy to pay an extra £270 on top of the £13 a month as the £13 is okay just for the breakdown cover. The £270 included £80 for existing medical conditions, £65 for the age extension and the remainder to extend the cover to 90 days on holiday. This is for the year so in theory you could go away 2 or 3 times for 90 days and be covered.

Like many others I paid an extra £215 for medical cover on top of the £13pm for Nationwide's travel insurance, it compared very favourably with the figures I was quoted elsewhere from £860 to over £2000 for over 70 plus a couple of minor medication controlled problems, and it included cruise cover which was a big added extra with others.

We rely on the insurance with our Lloyds bank account covers us up to 80 years old & has a huge list of conditions which you don't have to declare, high blood pressure is one of them.
Same as us and Angela's high blood pressure is covered. But a couple of years ago they changed the policy to limit each trip to a maximum 30 days. We now have to pay a premium to extend that premium. But it still cheaper than anywhere else for 2 x 75 years old.

We have arranged insurance through https://www.worldwideinsure.com/ never had a problem with all my wifes conditions, but we are under 70, although my brother also used them when he went to australia and he was over 70, and had a lung transplant recently. It might be worth giving them a call, they were always helpfull on the phone..

We've paid for Eurotunnel Travel Insurance cover when we go solely because it DOESN'T exclude pre-existing conditions. However, haven't had to claim so far.
Has anyone experience of claiming from Eurotunnel? We've almost decided to stop continental travel because of my many many ailments, some serious, and the thought of trying to translate my conditions and medications in an emergency without detailed help worries me.

Type up a short paragraph describing your existing and underlying health problems, (medications and frequencies doesn’t really need translating) and then Google translate and keep as photo, or in your Google drive or even as a screen saver on your phone… ✔️

Avanti were the best for us this year covering some pre existing conditions. They are part of the Staysure group who we’ve used previously.

We use flex plus. I opted to not have any cover for any blood pressure issues or thyroid issues. Both of those well controlled so negible risk. we only pay the age extension
I wonder how well that works if you develop something on holiday that might be linked to a pre existing condition ( like a stroke).

As I said, neglible risk from those
But that means there’s some risk

Yes that was very annoying I now have to pay £90 to extend trips to 45 days.
we only pay ½ the monthly charge as it's a staff account as Mi worked for them.

The cover you get depends on the account.
Indeed - I checked upgrading to Platinum at £21 a month and got a one trip quote for 60 days which was £110 - nine month unlimited was £880.

I have home insurance with LV and got Premier one year unlimited, 90 days per trip for £165.88 with them.

So I’m in agreement with many that LV are excellent value for over 70’s with some existing health issues.

We're only in our early sixties but my wife's list of ailments is growing, meaning that Nationwide no longer wish to cover her - mainly I think because she is still awaiting treatment for Atrial Fibrillation.

I'm currently speaking to specialist insurers, whom aren't cheap. Funnily enough insuring my mum, who is in her eighties, was easier - even with her list of ailments.

We, several pre existing conditions are happy with LV, we do up to 60 days, his choice 73/76 when policy taken out.

We are with Nationwide Flexplus and the extra £13.00pm we pay gets us full breakdown cover, at home, abroad, and recovery for MH and car (service provided by the AA), as well as travel insurance (for which we pay an extra £60 or thereabouts pa). We are both in our late seventies and have declared we are on blood pressure tablets and statins. So for us, at £216pa for full European wide breakdown and recovery, and travel insurance, it is an absolute no-brainer. It also means we are banking with an ethical building society, not a money grabbing bank. But others may have different circumstances of course, and it would be interesting to hear from people who have medical problems that Nationwide won't cover, like TwistNShout, as to what companies they find that will cover such things at a sensible price, as I guess many of us old'ns will be in that situation one day!
