Finally gave in and have uprated the Motorhome

Make sure when the V5 comes back that the "max permissible mass" has been changed to that of the revenue weight, this is something the DVLA forget to do quite often.
Thanks to Fontie for this sage piece of advice. Sure enough, they'd updated the revenue weight but not the MPM. Sent in a letter and a copy of the plate certificate (again), took about four weeks but it came back correct. Just in time for our trip over to Germany in a couple of weeks time.

Also when I rang the insurer, they didn't care one jot about the uprating.

That’s good to know about the insurance.

Documents are all back.

Revenue and MTPLM are both correct.

Plate is on and we are now legally heavier. Van weight engineering were excellent and if anyone is thinking of using them, it was far easier than I thought it would be.

Happy days! 😁

We are waiting for our new Carthago Compactline i138. I am hoping that with all our gear in we We still have plenty of payload. If not will update.

Any news on the proposed uplift of weights from the government. If they go ahead it will be q/huge relief for many.

Friends of ours have a 138 they weighed it recently, no awning, garage almost empty just spare wheels table & chairs, only a bit of water and some food, they are small about 100kg for the two of them. 3505kg.

You can almost guarantee a Carthago will come out of the factory 130 kg over then factory fitted options will probably use up 100-150kg.

I've ordered my 141 on the 4250kg giving payload of 1350kg

Be prepared for a long wait from DVLA. Recently took 7 weeks to get my V5 back. Got it back mid April 2023 just in time for travel to Europe.
A guy at DVLA said that if you send something recorded delivery it goes into a different pile that is dealt with sooner than others 🤷‍♀️

The consultation came back with the majority recommending C1 be removed. Just need to wait now and see if the Government sort it.

That’s right, goes straight to the department dealing with it instead of through the mail room. You do need the correct postcode on it though.

According to SV Tech the Max Permissible Mass does not change and is not required to when uprating, that is according to the accompanying letter I received today with my uprate plate from them.

That would mean you have a revenue weight of 3850kg but the MAM is still 3500kg so there would be no point in uprating as the MAM is the maximum you can run the vehicle at.

Like with Lenny, that doesn't equate with me either. What's the point of up plating, if it's not shown on the new plate and V5? That might leave you in a sticky situation with Traffic Enforcement Officers if you get pulled at all, both here and abroad. :(

This'll be the same SV Tech who told me that up plating does not increase the GTW, yet when John Ruffles (RIP) up plated out tandem axle Hymer for me, my GTW went from 5250Kgs to 6500Kgs.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

I used Dee at van Weight Engineering all done via phone then emails took my van upto maximum 3850 as paperwork exercise. Excellent service nothing any trouble even the daft questions all answered professionally.

I think I'd have a hard time trying to convince the French or German police that the Maximum weight on the piece of paper didn't matter.

Likewise, a great company to deal with. 👍

I tried to use Van Weight Engineering, numerous emails and Facebook requests did not get one response.

They were virtually instant on email every time I sent one?

I am soon to up-rate mine hopefully to 5t but I suspect it will be 4.8 now. Tyres, wheels & suspension now up-rated. My V5 has nothing in F1:Max permissible mass or in G: Mass in Service. It only has Y:Revenue weight should I ask or leave alone?

I would ask Van Weight Engineering?

Burstner tells you they weigh every vehicle off the line and pass that number onto the selling dealer. I upgraded from 3500kgs to 3700kgs with no modification that allows us to travel with two foldable e bikes, spare wheel, chairs tables bbq etc plus a full tank of water. We did manage at 3500kg without spare wheel and carrying only 20kgs of fresh water. I really struggle to think of what extra we would need to take with us taking us over 3700kgs. I think that option allows us to offer for sale with the weight reduced back at 3500kg which is a bigger buyer pool. We are just departing to the Netherlands with a full van and still some spare payload. We are lucky to have a weigh-bridge ten minutes away from where we live at £7 a pop. I agree with many that the regulations/laws regarding MH weights need to be overhauled along with those relating to the guideline size of parking spaces.
