Well, after talking a good job since I retired just over two years ago, we have today finally pulled the trigger...

A two-year old Expedition C72.

Our first van. Went out yesterday to look at ten vans at seven locations. The first one didn't do it for us. This was the second one we saw and we both had that 'think this is the one' feeling. Went to look at the next one, but not impressed. Looked again at our list and sacked it off there and then. I phoned the dealer and said we would be back today to look at it in more detail and take it for a test drive.
Picking it up next week.

We are both as giddy as a pair of giddy things that fell out of the giddy tree and into the giddy pond, hitting every branch on the way down.

We said, when we started looking seriously a few months ago, that our first over-nighter would be on Marine Drive at Scarborough, but the council have recently put the kibosh on that by banning overnight parking. Will have to think about somewhere else now.

Now, to sort out all those pesky necessary things like insurance, security and storage etc.
I'll be back on here to ask (many) questions. 😊

Looks rather tidy. Obviously had lots of TLC. Now time to start enjoying your retirement properly. Enjoy.

Marine Drive might be off the list but there are various sites for cheap and free stopovers. Park4Night, Searchforsites, Britstops etc.

Good luck with it all. It's a bit of a learning curve when you get your first van but you can ask any questions on here and everyone is super helpful.

Video your handover, there's too much to remember if you aren't familiar with motorhomes internal workings. Camp on your drive first night and then not far to go if you find things that don't work or vital bits of kit you neglected to bring. (y)

However many times you buy a motorhome the feeling is always the same……

I'll be going round the marine drive tomorrow night around 11.30pm so we'll see if works.
In the past The council ban it then don't enforce it

Get yourself down to Robin Hoods Bay.

Park up in Station Road carpark and walk down into the bay, then park up at either of these places. One has an honesty box that I always use and wake up to a stunning view over the Bay, then drive back to Scarborough and park up for the day. Just a thought and welcome to Fun.

Thanks folks(y)

After many trips in the US and Canada over the last nine years or so, it's good to finally have our own van. We hope to get a lot of use out of it over the next year, and beyond.

Today I sorted the free fourteen days insurance out with Caravan Guard, which will give us a bit of breathing space to get it home, kitted out, and the private registration transferred. I also got a really competitive quote for when the free cover finishes.

Our lass had a bit of a shopping spree too and got some soft furnishings to add to all the bits and bobs we've been collecting for a while now.

Tomorrow I'm going to check out the compound we intend to use.

One of the first things we'll do when we get it home is remove all the cushions and take them inside for our CoCo to get her scent on. BTW - CoCo is our kitty not a daughter or granddaughter!😆

We've had a lot of great advice from our very good friends who are seasoned campers, but I will also be seeking help on here from you lovely folk. 😊

Thanks for the reminder about the videoing.👍🏻 It's something I've meant to do in the early days of renting, but haven't always. More relevant now that it is our own.

Unfortunately, our drive is hardly big enough for our car, let alone our motorhome. We intend to do a couple of shorts drives, without any overnight stays, so our kitty can get used to it, and get her scent all over it. Then we'll try our first over-nighter, just for one night.

Congrats! Hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoy ours. If you want a nice nearby stay, Filey Brigg Country Park at Filey astonishingly, is nice. We’re going there on Tuesday for one night, just to get the van moving. Near to the town centre and a lovely beach and several excellent fish and chip shops.

Thanks for the great information!👍🏻
Unfortunately, walking down to the bay is a definite no-no for us; our lass is a wheelchair user and wouldn't dare bool down there. Going as far as that chippy a little way down the hill is her limit. I've driven down to the bay and back up again in our car but wouldn't dare attempt it in a 24ft van.

The overnight parking places you've pointed out are on our radar, and somewhere our friends have stayed before.

Just a quick one...

How to I change the motorhome details on my profile? I've been on there but can't figure it out!😕

Click on your name just to the left of the little envelope icon. Then go to Account. Scroll down and you can enter motorhome details.
