Fiat x290 (2015) Air Bag Light

Prices are somewhat higher now, just ordered same airbag ecu from shop4parts at £256 but at least they have stock, at least online. Crashdata and Coastal are waiting stock.

Question
Will airbag ecu need to be set up? We do not have side airbags as its an A class, or as fiat part number is identical it will be setup as original airbag ecu?

Have practised saving proxy file so feel timidly confident to proceed once new ecu arrives.

It will need proxi alignment.

Reset any fault codes before the proxi or it may not align.

Sandra, I assume from your post that you have access to MultiEcuScan?

Firstly though, what age is your van? Although shop4parts advertise stock with compatible part numbers for pre and post 2014 ECUs, when you select from the drop down list they only have stock of the pre 2014 units, which are not in such short supply. Just checking that you have ordered the correct part!

If you have, after fitting the new ECU you will need to connect MultiEcuScan and run a proxi alignment, so that the van will recognise the new ECU and write a new proxi file to the network.

Crashdata had no stock, but normally £350
Coastal had no stock , usually £2xx
Both had no idea when they might get a delivery, maybe aug or sept?
Ebay no new ones, either polish second hand or 1 seller who had very little feedback.
Deed is done and ordered.

So as long as part no identical no need to set any parameters in the airbag ecu?

Believe the airbag ecu has to be "linked" to the specific vehicle.

Yes, I understand the proxy alignment does that, sort of introduces the new Mr Airbag ecu to his new friends!

No, as long as it's the correct part, the purpose of the proxi-alignment procedure is to scan and discover the current configuration of the vehicle, write a new compatible proxi file and distribute it across the network so that all the nodes are recognised and can communicate as required. "Linking" the new component is part of that procedure.

Thanks to Deneb and Phill D for sharing their info and knowledge.
Today successfully fitted new airbag ecu, proxi aligned and all is good.
Given van a 10 mile run and no warnings or lights.
Hopefully I wont need to do this again, or at least for a long long time.
