Just brought over from Germany my Fiat Ducato based motor home. Just driven over and has been on the drive for a week. Key worked perfectly until today when it was completely unresponsive to the remote unlock/lock button. Still works fine with the key in the ignition and in the door lock. Have changed the battery in case but same, completely dead. Obviously all under warranty so no big deal but would like to avoid the hassle of taking it to the fiat dealership. Any ideas?

I had a spare so tried a brand new one. No change!
Did you check the voltage in the batteries using a multimeter ? Just in case,,
Never mind I have just seen that the op started the thread ages ago

Just for anyone coming across this with a similar issue. In order to reset I disconnected the van battery - very easy with the quick release on the negative - reconnected and all worked again. No idea why it happened and time will tell if it is going to be a regular problem.
Had same problem and same solution, problem has not come back, fingers crossed. Did you import your van?

Sorry to resurrect this thread.
I just had a problem with the central locking on my 2007 ducato. It unlocks the van fine, and from quite a distance. But it won't lock.
I read this thread and tried disconnecting the earth then reconnected. Suddenly the fob works normally.
Brilliant, so I bolted the cover down, fitted the floor panel and the mats.
Tried it again - no locking!

The van battery has been replaced recently after dying completely. But I've locked and unlocked the van several times since, with no issues.
If nothing else, I'll remove the earth strap again to test, but leave the cover and floor panel off, just to see whether it's a time issue or something to do with the leads attached to the battery. Maybe the floor panel is fouling somewhere. Don't see why it would suddenly start doing this now though.

Any thoughts?

I would suggest you check ALL the connections on the battery. Slightly loose or corroded connection is common

Well, I tried fixing this again on Friday as we were away for the weekend in the van. Checked everything, cut my hands, broke some plastic and lots of swearing. Still no joy. So off we went.
Late on Saturday, we had occasion to use the lock on the hab door which uses the same key as the external lockers. Normally we just use the central locking for the hab door but we needed to give someone else access.
Well, lo and behold, the central locking now works as it should and the odometer is no longer flashing.
I had theoretically traced the problem to the hab door in my mind, but never considered using the key.
On to the next problem....

Having search for the problem of fiat Ducato not picking up key fob i cam across this thread, i can confirm i had exactly the same problem, removed the negative from the battery, left for 1 minute then reconnected, fob and central locking work straight away, i am now a very please person. Thanks for sharing your idea's through this forum, much appreciated.

I have a slightly different problem in that the fob will only operate the central locking if held very close to the drivers door whereas up until a week ago it operated from 3 or 4 metres away from the van.

I have replaced the battery in the fob but still getting the same problem. Any suggestions as to what else might be the cause of the problem?

Thanks
