We've just bought our first m/h.
I'm disabled. I badly need my knees replacing, but for now, they're refusing the op because of weight issues 😳
The thing is, although we've got an extra couple of steps for the back door (and even then the gaps between steps are wide) I'm having problems with the passenger side cab height! I just can't bend my knees enough to step down that far.
I would like a step, with a handle that I can place on the ground from the cab, that folds flat to store down the door side of the seat. Something like the caravan steps with the tall handle at the side. I can manage the first van step, just not the drop to the ground. Getting in is not quite such a problem, it's just the getting out.
Has anyone any idea of what is available please? Anyone got anything similar?
I won't let it beat me! Although I have to admit, I didn't take into account the height of the cab, as well as the height of the habitat door 🙄
Thanks in advance for letting me pick your brains!

Chris had the same issue, with the addition that she was too young, change your hospital (preferably to a specialist orthopaedic hospital) and consultant, it worked for Chris.

Cheers
Red.

I'm 5ft 4ins and following a stroke have problem with my right leg so unable to get in or out of cab door because of the height. I always use the hab door and go out backwards which is actually much easier than stepping forwards.

Someone had the same issue and had a small folding step that they dropped out of the door to get out and also used it to get back in then retrieved it by pulling it up with a piece of cord attached to it.

If you can manage with the hab door why bother with the cab doors.
We only have one cab door only use it for fuel stops rest of the time we use the hab door.
Was going to say the same only time I use the habitation door, drivers side is when i am doing the driving. Can get in and out them but so much easier using the hab door, need a step for that too when parked up.

Hi Red
Thanks for the suggestion. As an army veteran, I can go to an army orthopedic consultant, who specialises in veterans knees and hips. He certainly knows his stuff. It's not his decision, but the guidelines they have to work to. To be honest, the more pressing problem has been, and still is, my back, after I fractured a vertebrae last year, so I haven't been chasing up the knees too much! I'm waiting until they do them under epidural, because, in this state, I'm never going to lose the weight required! Of course, I just hadn't realised how bad my knees had got regarding large steps - I live in a flat, with a lift. So... I'll keep working on it all, and it'll work out. It will. It's got to!

The dogs bed is tethered between our seats, so it's too awkward (plus, I'm a bit snug a fit through the gap too 😳)

I already do that, thanks though. Funny how it makes such a difference, isn't it?

That's what I was thinking, although I'd rather the stiff handle so I can place it when I get down. Obviously my partner will mostly be with me (haven't driven it yet, myself) but I would need it to drive by myself anyway

The dog's bed is tethered between us and the gap between the seats isn't that great. Plus I'm rather wide! 😳

I had a step fitted onto the cab door as I struggled with the long drop, at toll booths in France it was a nightmare. I had a step fitted that folds out and folds back in, it is operated by a button next to the passenger seat.

Hubby made me and extra step. We also use caravan steps with this extra step. I can't bend my knees and they won't replace mine for the same reason as you. I feel your pain.

Aaw, thank you. I haven't enquired yet, as, at the moment, there's too much other stuff going on, but I recently found out that a friend had had theirs done under epidural, which kind of blows their 'anaesthetic is dangerous at your weight' argument out the window! It might be worth asking about that? Good luck with it all
