Fiat ducato 2.8 oil in diesel fuel tank

Check your sump for the oil loss they are very prone to rusting and get the fuel tested for a fuel bug

Diesel fuel found in the oil sump is a well known diesel engine problem but how engine oil could find its way into the fuel tank is not an easy one other than by a low pressure fuel return pipe. If the oil was picked up on the route from the fuel tank into the fuel lift pump then into the fuel injector pump it would burn off in the engine and produce blue smoke.

I believe injector pumps are lubricated by engine oil, as well as by the diesel fuel itself. It is perhaps possible that if a seal broke down engine oil could be pumped into the diesel return line and get sent to the tank. The engine oil pressure would not be sufficient to force oil into the high pressure injection side but it would probably be higher than the low pressure return flow. It wouldn’t need to get into the sytem at the lift pump or the fuel feed line.

@candkandb did you solve the problem?
Please let us know what was the cause.
Thanks.
OK don’t then. Please yourself. Don’t bother.
I’m sure other members don’t mind being ignored when they’ve gone out of their way to help.
Do you wave? Doubt it.
