When we came back from France, all of a sudden we got a solid red light "Oil Service level low" but we were close to home and everything seemed OK as it has just been serviced.
We have never had any oil patches under the van.
At this stage it is wise to know we dont have a dipstick but a read out on the dash.
I filled some up and nothing happened so I filled up some more and then I thought I would read something about it and hey ho. "Dont overfill". Did some more reading and plumped for a new sensor.
Emptied the oil, changed the sensor and put 6.3 litres back in.
I still have the warning light.
I have tried my obd reader to clear the fault (no good and its not confidence inducing OBD reader) and I have also tried the hold accelerator pump brake 7 times wait 60 seconds turn engine off wait 60 seconds trick and think I have reset my service interval ! But the light is still on.
Prior to taking it to a garage and paying for this are there any ideas about this ?

Doesn't that light also come on for degradation of the oil?
Thats possible. I m currently down to "I should have done the filter at the same time".

You have me thinking that I could do a full oil and filter change before booking it in

My 2022 fiat Ducato used less than 1/2 litre of oil in 14000 miles before its 1st service and the gauge was showing as it should. After 2k miles while travelling back from Spain the gauge showed 1 bar then I got the red oil can light. Not convinced its right but I put 1/2 litre of oil in but the gauge did not register it for another 200 miles, but only back to 1 bar on the gauge. When back home as van the is still in warranty took it back to Fiat's who drained the oil then refilled and recalibrated the gauge. It was now showing full. Still have warranty until November so will see how it goes. It's a rubbish system!

Just arrived in Spain and this morning when starting we had the red dipstick come on, thankfully I have a dipstick and checked to find all ok. When starting up after lunch stop it showed 3 bars and again at a later stop. I will check it after it’s sat for a day or two to be sure.

Lucky you have dipstick , much more reliable 👍

Until I read this post I didn’t realise they came without, not sure I like that as I always check mine before any trip away.

I think its because of the A class that they couldnt fit a dipstick into engine bay

FIAT seem to have abandoned the computerised level gauge in the latest series, back to a good old reliable dipstick. They have re-applied the KISS principle.

At least on our 2024 2.2 the correct amount is FIVE point 4 liters. And the level sensor doesn't work instantly, there has to be certain parameters met before the level is displayed right. Don't remember what they exactly were, but when you know the level is OK you just drive around and it will sort itself out.

It's not one or two occasions a garage does their first oil change for one of these and end up overfilling the engine as the level doesn't seem to be high enough. When the level eventually shows correct, there's already too much oil in it.

All very well when it works as it should but when only showing 1 bar after 2000 miles since first service then showing 0 and the red oil light soon after, you have no idea to believe the sensor or go with your gut feeling and carry on after checking for anything obvious and adding a minimum amount of oil so not to overfill.
