Ferry to Santander without v5c document?

Over the years we have broken down in Spain, France, Belgium and Lithuania.
All the garages required production of the V5c before they would do any work on it
Yes it is normal practice, we were asked for ours in both France and Germany

The letters and numbers on page 2 of a V5 are in a standard international format( except items in square brackets), which any traffic officer should be able to recognise, so maybe he was a numpty - or his mate's radio call to check reg. details etc. was taking a long time.

Geoff

That's what I thought -- maybe he was getting paid on overtime rate :)

At a guess garages would want to see the V5 so that they have a record of engine/chassis numbers to enable them to order parts. They wouldn't think to look at the plates on the vehicle....................................!
Yet any Ford dealer in europe can use either the chassis number or registration ,regardless of country, & the full details come up.Yet go in my Ford dealer here & they won't speak to you without the actual ficha tecnica.
Even worse try buying a spare part for a vehicle not actually fitted with those parts originally .o_O
I still have nightmares.
