Felixstowe - Options being looked at because of the few who are taking liberties

If you know anything about this place then you will appreciate that a height barrier is out of the question. It’s a long section of road with people parking parallel to the kerb.

Plus a hotel and other commercial properties.

And three approaches.

And three approaches.
FELIXSTOWE is a day trippers seaside, the part of the seafront where Motorhomes park is the start of a 2 mile level seafront, the council is reluctant to fit parking meters so you can park all day for free on seafront in most places, there is one charge area, between the Spa theatre and Pier, ,but taking advantage of the council's free parking by overnighting for days is producing Anti Motorhome syndrome so those who complain about this just stop being greedy.

Trouble is I doubt any of those doing it are reading Fun. They wouldn't want to pay the subscription.

We are parked here now. Rolled up about 8.30pm most of the cars have gone now just us and 14 or so others.

Got that as well, don't ask why. :ROFLMAO:
Only here 1 night.
Taken with my pixel phone, 2.5 minutes exposure, pretty good I thought.

Looked outside this morning and all the spaces are full of cars, last night we went for a walk at 23.30 and their was only one.
So if your a day tripper you need to get here very early.

Yesterday we parked at Cliff Road Car park, then cycled along to Languard Fort..
The car park was busy but tons of space on the grass where we parked..

The beach was busy and the town was heaving , plenty of camper vans parked along the front.

Going back tomorrow to see the cycling , but not with the van, going to cycle and use the foot ferry from Bawdsey Quay ..

couple of pics from yesterday

We were there yesterday Jim, right at the front of the green as you drove of the main road.
Call in later if you like for a cuppa, we are here till this evening.

Wish we had seen you, I did notice your van but didn't realise it was you

will not be along today but thanks for the offer, need to make a plan and meet up at the Cliff Road car park

There's a campsite called "Peewit" easy walk to seafront, so instead of annoying locals why don't you pay to stay and do the right thing
If olley is still there tomorrow, you may have a point Tony50 but he is well within the law. Why shouldn't people park there while its permitted. I am certain if you nip down there quickly you can help him carry his full cassette to the toilets and empty most of it over the floor! Not.

The issue is surely those that stay for days/ weeks on end and take liberties with table chairs etc.

Why should cars have superior parking rights over motorhomes? TonyT
I agree it isn't fair that some stay for days but that's down to the individuals idea of fairness not the law.
We are staying 24 hours and will be gone this evening, I think that's more than fair you obviously don't, that's fine we are all entitled to an opinion.

Sooner or later the council may ban all motorhomes along here as frinton has done on the cliff top but is that fair?
I have stayed at peewit, it's a nice site but you don't get the view or the sound of breaking waves you get here.

There's an old saying that applies to this thread - "If a thing can be done, it doesn't meant that it should be done".

Car has parked in front of the dropped curb, on top of the white line, seems car owners can be inconsiderate too.

Your implication is that olley shouldn't be there? The problem is not the people staying one day/night responsibly, it's the long termers who turn it into something close to a shanty town. The same sort who get French Aires closed because the social rules don't apply to them.

He or she may get a ticket. Those dropped kerbs are often used by the Felixstowe community funded inshore lifeboat.

Sorry just to add that if my memory is correct, olley lives well within the boundary of the local authority concerned, so is himself a local. I think scotjimland is also the same local authority but slightly further afield. I am in an adjacent one but still well within Suffolk. So why would any of us acting responsibly be upsetting the locals when we ourselves are locals. Unless by locals you mean those that once they get rid of the motorhomes want to park their cars there?

Yes we live in kesgrave which is Suffolk coastal.
I was actually born in Hallpond way Felixstowe and went to school here so I am definitely a local. ::bigsmile:

We lived in Nacton Road down by the Dolphin from 1972 to 76. Also ran a youth club there most of that time in St Felix church hall. Born in Ipswich. We had a static van at Felixstowe Beach for well about 15years and was behind many of their prize winning carnival floats. Mum died in Felixstowe in 2020. One of our daughters lived there while bringing up our grandson and only moved out to be with her now husband last year. So not quite as local as you but definite ties with the town.

Yes, and we live in Alderton, a 4 mile cycle ride to Felixtowe using the foot ferry from Bawdsey Quay,,

My grandfather came up from Kent about 1900 to be the blacksmith at the Felixstowe gasworks, so we've been here or abouts since then.

They do say it takes 50 years before you are considered a local in Suffolk. :ROFLMAO:

Don’t get me wrong I’m with you on the long stayers, but do the beach huts have toilets…😎
No, and as far as I know the Beach hut Owners if they have them don't empty their septic tanks down Public toilets!

Looks just like your last paragraph, anyhow enjoy it while you can , don't think it will be available much longer.
