Feel as though I have been robbed.

Yup, you're wrong  !
Fixed tank for habitation is permitted (restricted to to 50kg capacity IIRC)

oh brilliant thanks. It is all Chinese to me! Just been looking at Safefill are they bottles you fill yourself at a garage? An alternative to an underslung tank?

I have 2 X 10kg Safefill refillable recommended by Morrison's but they are around £170 each

thanks I was looking on eBay and they sell the empty bottles but are out of stock. I suppose you need to get special connectors etc. as well? Maybe for next summer. I’ve currently got several empty bottles of different types so I’ve got some learning to do

No every bottle comes with the UK bayonet fill fitting attached. You can buy EU adapters if needed. Flexible gas hose screw's in LH into bottle as normal. They are just coming back in stock in the UK now.

No experience of safefill, but I assume they replace existing calor cylinders. The beauty of an underslung tank is gaining storage. All other factors being equal.

Beware buying refillable cylinders off eBay, they may not be "safe".

I recently replaced my 6kg calor propane at an Esso station @ £29 :0

Costs me around £10 to fill my Safefill 7.5 Kg cylinders. No problem getting Gas in UK or Spain

That’s not strictly triue as I am a Gaslow and Gasit authorised dealer and sell refillable cylinders and components on eBay they are completely safe 👍

I realise some have refillable gas systems but I do not and never thought I needed one, but:
We have not used our moho much lately, but last time in Spain (2 years ago) our 13kg calor ran out (or so I thought). Having moved house and just finished refurbishment we were off to Spain this year so decided to change the gas bottle. On removal I found it was still heavy and sloshed with LPG so put it back. Due to lockdown we never went but have just returned from a 5 week staycation and, using CCC CS's used a fair bit of gas. Inevitably the gas ran out so went to change it in Warwick. 1st and 2nd places had none (seems a national shortage of 13kg bottles) but a Shell garage did so charged me £44.95 yes thats correct £44.95 for an exchange. Last time I changed it it cost £27. Do they now add a gold dust to this stuff ?? Just been checking the Calor site and they are quoting £43 so Shell are only making a little.
Think we all need to be careful?. Pre lock down I was getting 6k propane from Go Outdoors for about £20. Prior to GO re-operning I used a local esso garage and they charged me £30!. Just bought one at camp site and it was £23. Guess folk can and will charge what they like?. Seriously thinking of a Safeflow re-fillable, approx 60 pence a litre. Any thoughts on here? Will run a search, thanks

Safefill wont fit in some gas lockers, a bit fatter than 6kg calor 👎

We trade as Vangas and use eBay predominantly as an advertising platform as it has a huge following and does seem to generate enquires 👍
do you offer a discount to members?

There are fors and against for all systems but refillable is a must.
I use Safefill Cylinders as after the initial purchase cost of around £150 - 160 if you use your MH or CV on a regular basis or go away for long periods then the payback is there, I have never had any problems abroad refilling and there are various Apps showing locations of filling points.
Nothing wrong with on board tanks, although I have heard of one guy not being allowed on the channel tunnel, but like Gasit yu have to take the unit to the filling point to refill where I put my Safefill cylinder in the TowCar. Just refill one of my 7.5's with 11 Litres for £5 something at FloGas Peterborough and never had any problems getting the cylinders into the gas locker of the Burstner. Also a lot lighter than standard metal cylinder.

I knew there were some advantages living in Poland. For 2 x 11kg Propane bottles (plan on using the van over the winter and it gets COLD here!) we paid roughly 30 quid. That included the deposit on both bottles as well! Remind me to replace my bottles BEFORE i come to the UK!!

Safe-Fill come in different sizes and you don't need two.
They are direct replacements for Calor bottles (dimensions may differ slightly), using the same pigtails.
It all depends on how much gas you consume before you break even but the main reason I went that way was to save weight (the cylinders are lighter).
The confidence of knowing that you can always have a full bottle when setting-off was another benefit.

We have had underslung tanks since 2005, we have the electronic remote shut off valve on our current van we have used the tunnel at least twenty times with various vans no problem they ask to see that the valve is turned off. On our last three crossings they have to come inside and see me turn it off. Other than that no probs. Autogas 2000 sell a three adaptor kit that allows me to fill up anywhere in Europe.

Our local tip wont let anything out, tried to get a plastic dustbin last week that was sat on top of the skip to help out at my Grandsons cadets. No way says Mr Biffa.. They would rather it go into the landfill.. :banghead:
jobsworth rules ok??
Repsol Propano currently €10:64 for an 11 kg replacement in the Benidorm depot. Butano a little more for 12.5 kg.
Cheers
Ed
Believe it or not. That is approximately what was being charged back in 2006?

We originally got a 10 kg Safefill bottle for our caravan after I saw the price of calor gas refills and the cost of a bottle, paid for itself after 5 refills. We used the van in all weathers and a lot of off site camping. Easy to find LPG stations in the uk and you can top up when you feel like. Local Morrisons is 6 miles away and has no problems filling safe fill bottles so we always start out with a full bottle.
We then changed to a motorhome with a fixed gaslow system which was good but the bottles were smaller, we kept the safefill as a backup when we went to morocco for a month in January as we knew it is nearly impossible to buy LPG there. We could connect it via the barbecue point to run the van. Turns out we didn't need it as we were only using gas for cooking as the campsites with ehu were cheap enough. Altogether I think we used 1 gas bottle of the 2 fitted to the van. We changed vans this year and this one is set for bottles so we are using the safe fill bottle on its own in Europe at the moment. No hassle so far getting it filled, not sure about the requirements in Spain regarding refillable bottles but I just angle the MH so they cant see me fill it up from the pay kiosk. I ordered a second safe fill bottle but it didn't arrive until after we had left the UK so when we go back to Morocco, if we ever can, then 2 x 10 kg bottles will last a couple of months.
If it runs out I can always backflow through the barbie connection from a local bottle.

One factor to consider with underslung tanks is servicing/replacement, our 10 year old one recently had to be replaced and it cost about £450.

Did consider reverting back to normal gas as we don't use much - but previous owner had cut ventilation hole between van and gas locker which would have had to be filled in, plus gas locker useful for cables, water pipes and buckets etc

We went on Leshuttle with it a couple of years ago with no problems,

Recently bought a 2nd Safefil (10KG) and went to local garage to fill it and topup the older 7.5. Cost £13 all in.. At £25 approx each for Calor 6kg refills the 1st one has paid for itself , and this one will not take long to at these prices. Lucky in that we have a great local garage and the young chap comes out and fills up for you. No problem filling up in France and Spain when we were there pre CV.

We have always fitted refillable bottles to our motorhomes. Easily pays for itself as it’s around £39 near us for a 13kg calor. Around £3 per kg.

I’ve just bought four 11kg Cespa bottles of propane in Spain. €12.20 Each from the Garden centre in Javea. £1 a kg. That’s around the same price that we pay to refill our LPG car at Repsol in Javea.

I have a place in Granada and I think its the same price for a bottle of gas as you pay. I don't understand why it is so much dearer in the UK with Calor as in Spain. They both use bottle swapping so they have the same checks and tests to the bottles but the UK is 3 times the price. The amount of people in Spain who use bottled gas may be a reason; our entire village uses bottled gas apart from a few places that have bulk storage tanks. But even so 3 times the price seems steep for the same product. And you don't pay anywhere near the deposit that Calor charge for the initial bottle purchase.

The only places I found so far that would be a problem refilling the Safefills is UK Shell service stations. In the UK we tend to top up in Morrisons where possible but I saw a sign on a Shell station saying refillable bottles of any type were not accepted.
