Anyone used 40 shots? read a few reviews and they all seem positive, using bio washing liquid ATM, the boss thinks its not working as her nose is far better than mine as I have frequented building site porta loos for years and my sense of smell is not what is was...:giggle::giggle:

It smells but not unpleasant. Have you cleared the tank out as it reacts with other residues?

I use Formil from Lidl.

Readily available everywhere, so no need to carry a large container.

Smells good before and while at work.

Seems to work well in the cassette and flushed into the grey water tank.

Useful extra, if you need to do some 'emergency' clothes washing, it handles that as well.

Yes did all that and have persevered but it is the smell of the product itself , gruesome 😂

Yes. We used to use 40 shots, which worked well, now using Solbio, which I prefer the smell of, and works as well if not better.

No not used 40shots.. however I think the subject of what to use in the cassette is an absolute minefield..
We have tried most that have recommended on here ( bio tabs being the worst) and we always revert back to what we used at the beginning "Fenwicks Top n Tail".
IMO all additive do what they are supposed to do, break doon yer jobby's and mask the smell.... and there in lies the problem.. to mask the smell of 'yer jobby's' they normally impart their own fragrance....
We all have differant smell tolerances and what might seem like a lovely sweet smelling nectar to me may be absolutely gopping to the point it makes you gag..
As OP says he perfectly happy with what they using but no..... boss says "much too smelly"

How much do you use at a time?

Thanks

Thanks

I don't measure, just slop in a reasonable amount, that compares to the measuring cap on the cassette.

Additionally I don't empty on return. I tip in another cap full and leave it to ferment for a week or so.

When I do empty, it appears to be all fluids, not a solid in sight.

Solbio has a mild but very pleasant smell of eucalyptus & works really well, much better than anything else we have tried so far - some tips for use here https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/foru...nt-20-discount-for-limited-time.273365/page-3 plus better green credentials than other products apart from the packaging not being recycable in the UK whereas it is on the continent.

Solbio. Smells great and friendly for septic systems.

Interesting.. when I empty my cassette after every 2 days or so when out and about.. ( even if on site we don't use site loos ) so no.1 and no.2 both in cassette and when I empty it is mainly fluids..
So my Fenwicks Top n Tail would appear to be doing in 2days what your Formil takes a week or so to do.

The Formil may work as quick, I've just a routine that works for me.

Also I'm lazy, LOL and the Black dump on the storage site is more covenient, with my van layout, to empty when leaving over when returning.

As I said above Wombles the eucalyptus may be very pleasant to some but to other could be rancid.
Cannot personally comment on Solbio because I have not tried it but I have tried plenty recommended on here only to revert back to our favourite that was appealing to both our noses
No point in having a nice fragrant smelling toilet if your partner does not like it.. you have to get one both/all party's can tolerate.

On a connected theme, Mrs Emmit is, er' anal (not literally!) about what goes down the plughole into the grey tank.

Two and a half years of our ownership and we're still getting lumps of 'stuff' out of the waste tap.
God knows what the previous owners put down there but it defies the laws of physics. Some of the pieces are large.
Now I know that some of our previous attempts to clear out the detrius of the tank must be working but can I ask.
Has any Funster found a product that gets rid of the crap, (sorry) in the tank.
In no particular order, we've so far tried bleach tabs. and vinegar.
Any other suggestions?

We use this and find it does the job well in the grey tank and the cassette.
When we have been to Spain for x weeks over winter the crud seems to really build up in the tanks, follow the instructions for dosing and then I go for a drive to agitate the liquids. Cassette and grey tanks are pretty much spotless when rinsed out.

Gave up on bio washing powder, started to really stink!
Gone on to Solbio, excellent product
Bio washing tabs seem to work ok in standard damp/cool UK climate conditions, but warm it all a bit (like now) and it stinks. Might give Solbio a road test.

Been trying t840 shot stuff for a couple of months and it's very good.
Just about to order another 4 bottles of it

I don't understand why Thetford's finest never get a look in on these threads. We use the concentrated lavender version and did so all through the heat of last year. Ne'er an evil pong assaulted our schnozzles, although admittedly it doesn't smell much of lavender.

The smell of Solbio is awful in fact borderline rancid 😂
Seems to turn a bit of poo into something resembling toxic waste it stinks 😷
I actually like the smell of it. Use it in the gray water tank too.

Came off the blue and started on bio washing powder now liquid and am delighted with the improvement - better smelling casette, no difference in performance for the solution and much, much easier to source and organise! I ask my lads to either use the site facilities where we have them or to wash rather than use paper and the casette functions even better (plus their hands are cleaner... they are at that age...)!!!

We use '40 shots'. The very knowledgeable lady in the shop at West Country Motorhomes recommended emptying tanks when leaving sites then pouring a measure of it down every waste pipe. So it's on my departure checklist and we do it every time.

I remember camp toilet chemical since the 60s! But have just bought Solbio for our new to us HYMER and I’m loving the smell, like eucalyptus and something else, so far so good. Also made up a spray bottle instead of pink stuff and we are happy with it all. Will update after a bit more use.

Try 10 litres of cheap Coca-Cola from Lidl or Aldi and drive around with that sloshing around in the tank and that should improve it.
