We're planning to attend the Italian Grand Prix in early September with our campervan. We've been to about a dozen F1 GPs, but this is our first time doing it in a campervan. Normally, we book 2-week trips by airplane, avoiding higher ticket prices, and book hotels and car hire well in advance.

As newbies, are we crazy to consider such a long trip? We live in Oxfordshire and have traveled all over Europe via the Eurotunnel, but always by car with pre-booked hotels along the way.

We know we need to take this trip more leisurely, and we're looking forward to it. We've already contacted local sites near the circuit and are working out the Eurotunnel crossing and pitches en route.

Security is a major concern, so we've added a tracker, steering wheel lock, and other security measures to the van. We've also upgraded the leisure battery and added other items based on MHF forum advice.

While we have some small trips planned, we wonder if this is too ambitious for our first year. And still working out whether e-scooters would be a wise addition or not.

Interested in your feedback—are we bonkers or not? 😊

Thank you, Carpmart ! You've given us the inspiration we needed.

We're currently awaiting updates from a couple of sites next to the circuit and deciding which Grandstand or area to watch the race from.

Exciting times ahead!
Are you going for the whole race weekend or just Sunday?
To see the cars break from top speed you're best to go for one of the stands at Variante del Rettifilo ( outside or inside of the Prima Variante) but for the race itself I usually use the Centrale & get as close to the podium as possible.

Me and No1 son went to Monza in 2014 in a old ish Alfa GTV Cup. Managed to book camping in the park right next to the track....like 20m away! Lots of tents, Moho , mini villages setup and it was fantastic, but very loud at night with all night parties, gennies and cars on track all night. Nothing to do with racing, just the marshalls "inspecting the track" in classic cars all night 😁
I never got the Tifosi until that weekend and now I understand the passion.. It is on the list to do with the Mrs in the van over a trip longer than a weekend.. It was a fantastic weekend and I would urge you to try and get camping in the park if you can get it and justify the cost....top tip is take earplugs...you will need them 🤣

The pic with the young lad in is the view from the tent. The two gentlemen are standing on the other side of the track to the camp site. My car is just above the rh chaps head on the left, that is how close the camping is. The people on top of the minibus didn't have tickets to the race but they blagged the camping anyway.

Not a problem with the trip.

The main issue will be booking camping close to the track, (but not too close unless you have good earplugs).

Taking scooters will depend on the location of the campsite and food
(and also if you have EHU or some method of charging them)

If security is a major concern, then get yourselves booked into VanBitz in Taunton and have them fit a decent alarm and immobiliser and advise on what else, if anything, you could fit.

In September I'd not bother booking campsites enroute, except maybe first night/last night just for peace of mind.

I had 2 nieces there this last September. They had a great time sited at Turns 1/2 and good for the podium but they saw most of the race on a screen from some shade as it was "crazy hot" in their words. So be prepared for that in the van and think about shade and water for the race.

Nonna - Checking out those stands now. Brains - Great point on EHU for scooters; we've got the GPS tracker, immobilizer, additional alarm, and steering lock all installed. DABurleigh - Many covered grandstands are now F1 Experience packages. Totally understand the need for shade. Vansflyer - Considering camping within the park, checking Italian sites for options. And those pictures are ace!

Planning to go Friday to Sunday, soak up the atmosphere (hopefully not get soaked!), and enjoy the whole event.

Tickets are tricky with prices and availability. The "packages" with F1 experiences make decent tickets about £2000 each. Prices have gone crazy since our first F1 in 2009!

Checking out third-party sites—used one for the NFL that wasn't too pricey.

Has anyone tried a GA (General Admission) ticket?

P.S. We absolutely love this forum and the incredible passion everyone has for motorhoming, campervans, and F1!:notworthy:

Update: We've successfully booked a pitch with EHU! 🌟 It was quite the mission, with many websites leading us in circles.

We finally booked with intentsgp.com through Motorsporttickets.com.

We're currently checking through some ticket options and will provide more details soon!
