How many miles would you expect a set of motorhome tyres to do before they requiring changing?

I have a 2018 Adria Coral (purchase June 2022) and have noticed that there is only about 1 to 2 mm of usable tread left on the front tyres. The mileage is currently 8850 and the tyres are Michelin Agilis on all four wheels. As expected the rear tyres appear in good condition.

I am traveling to France / Spain at the end of March and now feel that I have to get them changed before I leave as I would expect to travel in 3000 + miles during the trip.

This appears to be extremely heavy wear to me or is this normal? Don't fancy replacing tyres every 9000 miles.

Check the regions you are travelling through, you may find that winter tyres or snow chains are required. If that is the case 1mm of tread would be bordering on wreckless.

All depends if you are travelling between 1st December and 31st March. In France depending on region all four tyres now need to be at least M+S or snow chains. I risked it coming back…chances of getting pulled up etc.

That does seem heavy wear and a very low mileage although I do drive Miss Daisy these days
What pressures do you run them at?
My 2019 Michelin camper tyres are going to be changed next month at 24,000 miles
I moved them front to back after two years and 12,000 miles.
There is still 2mm before the wear beads left in them
If the first trip in April wasn't a five week tour of Europe I would have run them a little longer.
I am changing to Conti Camper - I like them better than Michelin
Don’t get Conti campers unless you store for long period, better Conti VanConnect or even better Conti Van 4 seasons.

What do you mean store for long periods? I only use the van in summer. Do you mean over winter?
I've already bought a set of Conti tires second hand off a new PVC last year.

Thats not correct as M&S tyres are not necessarily winter tyres they need to be winter tyres with the 3 peaks marking.

Both Michilen & Conti standard camper tyres are M&S rated but they are summer tyres not winter tyres with the 3 peak marking.

Both have new versions that are 4 season with the 3 peaks, Hymer offer them as an option.

Is the TOYO tyre a commercial tyre, rather than a camping tyre? Do you know what pressure you were running?
Is that a rear tyre?
Mike.
as far as i know - only 2 companies make camping tyres - michelin and continental

Bridgestone Duravis tyres are commercial van tyres not motorhome tyres. I believe Motorhome Tyres are built differently to allow for standing still for a long time, and commercial van tyres are designed for constant use, this may effect their wear. Do all panel van converters leave the van tyres on.
MH specific tyres are made differently, they have higher reinforcement to the side walls than standard van tyres. It gives better resistance to the van swaying from side to side when pitched, and more durability when stationary for long periods of time, they are also more resistant to uv.

My motorhome has done 18000 miles in the last 2 years. I had a flat in Germany last September at about 14000 miles. I was shocked at the difference between the new spare I put on and the flat tyre. The fronts do seem to spin easily.

I think I will be changing the fronts to the backs soon.

I believe that if all four tyres are M+S then that will suffice, don’t need to have the 3 peak marking. Have just come back up through France from Spain and looked into it. I diverted west of the Lot towards Bordeaux so less mileage through the regions with this new(ish) rule. I risked it for a biscuit as only had M+S on the front. Anyway if op is getting Cross Climate then will be fine. Expensive though….I was quoted £255 each a month ago (fitted).

You can’t seem to get the ordinary Michelin Agilis Camping in UK any more, well I couldn’t. Perhaps they’ve been superseded by Cross Climates.

Nope France and Germany require the 3 peak marking but there is a get out I think in Germany if the tryres were manufactured before the end of 2018 they can be used up to September 2023.

Nope. In France, don’t know about Germany M+S will be tolerated until 1st November 2024.

at a guess if your spinning the front wheels, you either have a 5lt with a blower on - or you have too much weight on the back. :)

My PVC is almost 10 years old and I have today ordered 4 replacement tyres. I know nothing about the technical specifications etc so, having read the recommendations by Jaws on another thread, I’m having Devanti DX440 fitted on Saturday.
As an aside this is the first tyre change I’ve had since getting the van new! The ones being replaced are a Bridgestone set and have done nearly 50k miles

Got them from Blackcircles for £189 each as they had a 15% off flash sale on for Michelin tyres :giggle:

2,2 fwd diesel Transit. Front axle 1280kgs rear 1100kgs.That's unladen. On dry roads any steering input & acceleration will spin the wheels. On damp/wet roads exiting roundabouts & attempting to accelerate is a nightmare.

Is it tramping or just wheel spinning , something is wrong somewhere, either tyres or tyre pressure or suspension.
Easy ones first, tires too over pressured or no tread ?

We bought our van new in 2018 and at present the mileage is 14,000 and the tyres look almost new!
We don't use the van over the winter and we have the van's E&P self levellers down to take the bulk of the van's weight off the tyres. We also do this if we don't intend using the van for periods longer than 2 weeks which will cut down the chances of the tyres cracking or developing flat spots (y)

Tyres run at 55psi . 6mm left on them . It does the same when new tyres are fitted . It doesn't bother me just amazed it can light up the tyres.

55 on the front seems way too much for a little transit, i suggest you drop 10 psi out the fronts and try the differance, there is no way you should be able to spin the wheels so easily and it be right .

its like this, if you can spin the wheels easily, either .. tyres too hard - shock absorber/s shot or weight distibution is all wrong. the guy below GOES TOO FAR, but you get the idea, 8000 miles and the tres are worn out ?? something is very wrong and i think its tyre pressure.
