What's the furthest anyone has travelled in their motorhome? I've been looking at maps of the world and wondering how far you could get before arriving at an un-crossable border or war zone? I assume I could drive to Georgia or even Azerbaijan, although I'm not entirely sure how do-able it would be in an A-Class. I know there are overlanders in big trucks that have done this, but has anyone ventured out of the eastern side of Turkiye before? That appears to be the only route where you may be able to leave mainland Europe now that Russia is a no go zone!

On my bucket list, I’d love to go to Mt Ararat and possibly Georgia, but would my 3.0L comfortmatic A Class Carthago make it???

Of course it would 😁😁

One couple on this forum, whom we met at a Rally a few years back, had driven their (Factory standard) MoHo across Ukraine (Pre-invasion) and as far as Azerbaijan.
They may have even crossed the Caspian Sea and on into the 'Stans,

I also know someone that drove a £1,000 bog standard car UK to Mongolia about 10-15 years ago.

So you don't need an overland truck, or even a 4x4, to drive to China, and using ferries across the Black Sea and Caspian Sea you can avoid Russia and Iran.

You could watch Tread the Globe on YouTube.
They drove from Turkey into Georgia in a 2004 Ducato PVC.
I think they turned around before reaching the toilet terrorists state but had the van shipped to USA, Japan and currently in Malaysia.
Fascinating viewing once you get past all the patreon, buy me a coffee, merch stuff.

Not me, but we once met a Dutch bloke, 30’s I guess. We were in Pammakale ( Turkey) Whilst having a chat he said to me he fancied doing the “stans” He was riding a Honda with everything in panniers.
I was amazed, we had our folding camper and thought we were on an epic trip, with minimal gear.
I shook his hand and wished him all the best.
I couldn’t stop thinking about his trip.

Another interesting YouTube channel is Itchy Boots. A dutch girl on a motorbike just driven solo through Nigeria into Cameroon. Quite an eye opener, you wouldn't want to tackle those roads in a coachbuilt motorhome.
Makeshift road blocks made from tree trunks every few km. Lots of hands out wanting payment for safe passage 😯
She's a brave girl.

We went in an Overland truck through S.America, (Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru, Chile) and regularly saw not only other overland trucks with European reg plates, but also 4x4's, motorcyclists, and a surprisingly large number of cyclists, many of whom were doing the 'end to end' (Alaska to Cape Horn)

She has been all over the world and has been travelling on her motorbike solo for many years on every contingent, worth watching all the various series on you tube👍

Whilst waiting for the Russia/Mongolia border to open I chatted to a Dutch driver of a motorhome. He had travelled all the way from Holland but had to turn around because he had to get back home in time to start the new term . We were in a Ford Transit minibus which made it all the way to Ulannbattaar.

Must have been cutting it fine!

It's c8,000km Netherlands to Mongolia, that is well over 100hrs of driving assuming no hold ups or actually wanting to do anything but drive.

Which means with two or three drivers, driving all day every day, about 2 solid weeks.

Frankly If I was covering that distance, I'd actually want to see stuff, so I'd allow about 2 months, and you could probably easy add another month without trying.

Waiting for a ferry in Dover I got chatting to a couple who had taken their motorhome, a Burstner I believe, across Asia and as far as Outer Mongolia then on return had taken it across to Argentina and toured South America. They were members of the silk route

A group of lads on DRZ 350's done it and made a movie called 'Mondu Enduro' it's really good motorcycle blog type thing. Maybe it could inspire you.

First time it took 3 weeks (2 drivers) second time it took 3.5 weeks (3 drivers) but each to their own way of travelling. First time in a Suzuki SJ410 which raised 1.7 million in a charity auction, second time in a Ford Transit minibus which we bought to donate to an orphanage in UB.

Not seen vwalan about for ages, , but he has written about his sub-saharan Africa journeys in the past. A friend was towing a boat down to Uganda just before Covid. Taking it to be used by the wildlife rangers. Not sure how that turned out

Did London to Kabul in early 70s with a mini van. Only East Iran was a bit of a challenge on the durt track with a mini ground clearance!

We've just come back from a Namibia, Botswana & Zambia tour, not in our motorhome, we hired one out there. The Namibian roads are something else, don't think our Swift would have survived as well as the thing we hired did.
Fantastic experience though.

Aside from Morocco of course, which is somewhere I know a lot of Motorhomers tend to head for. Anyone been any further in Africa?
In 2005, my son and I took part in the Plymouth to Banjul banger rally, taking 2 weeks to get to Gambia in a Volvo 740 estate. 3 days in the Sahara with no roads was fun! I always hoped I'd get back to Dakhla in my MH.

Coming into Europe, I drove from Muscat in Oman, to UK,
in a VW camper.

Austin Vince, he's a teacher, we,(eldest son and me ) did one of his events in the Pyrenese. He's a nutter, we practically had to write a hundred lines because we broke some time constraint.
Mike.
